Clinical Neurosciences represents a key theme in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Southampton. The Interdisciplinary Dementia and Ageing Centre (IDeAC) is a cross-Faculty group of basic scientists with different areas of expertise, clinicians, engineers, mathematicians, computer scientists with a common goal of a better understanding of the pathophysiology underlying dementia, novel biomarkers and identifying new safe affordable therapeutic strategies. The post-holder will have responsibility for maintaining and enhancing this core area of research excellence in fundamental and translational neuroscience with a focus on dementia. The post-holder will also develop new areas of interdisciplinary research through effective internal (both UoS and UHS) and external collaboration.
The post-holder will have a significant national and/or international reputation for leadership and innovation in dementia education and research, characterised by a sustained and continuing track record of academic excellence. The post-holder will both lead and collaborate on submitting major funding bids (e.g. NIHR Infrastructure Bids), securing research funding and attracting high-quality research staff and PhD students.
The post-holder will provide effective academic leadership within the School as well as the wider University, undertaking management, research and educational activities, including the supervision of PhD students. They will be able to make judgements at a strategic level and will contribute to the development of the University’s external profile in the UK and internationally.
