My client is a renowned multiservice law firm committed to access for justice. Their lawyers specialise in criminal defence, family law, housing, civil liberties and human rights. This is a full-time position with the successful candidate being part of a dynamic and expanding team and supporting fee earners in dealing with all aspects of family law, including matrimonial/ divorce/ private law/ domestic abuse and care proceedings. Previous experience is desirable. Legal Secretary Duties To type from digital dictation or otherwise, including copy typing. To do electronic filing. To deal with the maintenance of files as may be required from time to time. To deal with telephone calls whether incoming or outgoing from clients, Counsel, experts and other third parties. To keep appointment diaries for any Fee Earner or any Senior Member of the team. To deal with clients and others visiting the office as may be appropriate To ensure compliance with all office procedures as laid down in the Practice Manual including any variations or amendments. To ensure familiarity with the working of all computers, photocopiers, fax machines or other office equipment normally used by a secretary. To deal with such routine maintenance of such equipment as might normally be expected of a secretary. To ensure that equipment faults or breakdowns are promptly notified to the Practice Manager or their substitute for the time being. To ensure compliance with all office procedures as laid down in the Office Manual including any variations or amendments. To deal with CCMS legal aid matters/ applications. To action any fee notes and/or matters pertaining to experts’ invoices. Whilst the above represents the main duties and responsibilities, it may be necessary from time to time for the smooth running of the office for all Members of Staff to undertake any task for which they are qualified that may be undertaken by any other Member of Staff in a solicitors’ office. Skills/ Knowledge: Fast and accurate typing skills and spelling. Clear and precise written and verbal communication skills. Ability to cope with the pressure and demands of working in a typing pool environment. Computer skills and the ability to use the hardware and software applications in the office.
