Historic Royal Palaces is a team of people who love and look after six of the most wonderful palaces in the world and their magnificent historical gardens.
We are recruiting for a Sustainability Project Support Apprentice, giving you a fantastic opportunity to grow and develop your skills whilst working at our historical sites.
Like many organisations, Historic Royal Palaces is keenly aware of its impact on the climate crisis and the need for urgent action to mitigate it. A significant part of this is the impact that our use of fossil fuels at our sites has on our organisation’s carbon emissions.
As Sustainability Project Support apprentice, you’ll be supporting the delivery of the Decarbonisation programme - the largest workstream in the Sustainability Action Plan.
You’ll work closely with the Senior Project Manager, Decarbonisation and other stakeholders across all HRP sites to support the delivery of large-scale reservicing and renewable energy projects.
This role provides an exciting and rare opportunity to gain practical project management experience in many areas of sustainability, specifically energy and construction as well as getting to know each of our palaces.
Whilst studying towards your apprenticeship you will also be:
Project controls
1. To assist setting up and maintaining project risk registers
2. To assist project change control systems
3. To maintain project files
4. To collect data for quality and cost control and key performance indicators, working closely with the Energy Manager and Energy & Sustainability Analyst to produce reports as necessary
5. To assist with project reviews and closure
6. To assist the Senior PM in contract administration duties in accordance with the HRP Project Management Handbook
Planning
7. To set up and maintain project plans (Gantt charts)
8. To produce charts and other documents for project managers to use in project proposals, briefs, presentations, etc.
9. To assist compiling business case papers and papers for the Programme Boards, Executive Board and Trustees
Project ordering, monitoring and reporting
10. To obtain budget codes from the Finance Office
11. To raise Works Orders
12. To record payments against Works Orders
13. To record project changes and instructions
14. To produce reports from the finance software
15. To communicate and problem-solve with Finance
Technical
16. To carry out research for the Senior PM and Sustainability Programme Manager
17. To gain knowledge and become expert in the use of the Procore, and Microsoft Project software
18. To undertake delegated work packages (e.g. obtaining quotations, recording trials and investigations)
Communication
19. To assist the Senior PM in producing project interpretation and other project communications
20. To manage news and updates to the Sustainability intranet site and Project sites.
Record management and archives
21. To maintain digital files suitable for electronic archive
Administration
22. To help the Senior PM produce and issue documents
23. To take minutes and chase actions arising from team meetings on behalf of the Senior PM
24. To deal with email, queries, act as a central point of administration for specified projects
25. To order PPE supplies and equipment
26. To arrange meetings – people, equipment and catering
More than anything we are looking for potential, but, as this Apprenticeship starts at level 4 we do have a few eligibility requirements:
27. You must be 18 years old or over on 2nd September 2025.
28. Live in UK (resident in country role is based).
29. You must not have completed a degree or equivalent level qualification in the UK or elsewhere and not already be in full-time education.
30. Five GCSEs at grade C (or 4) or above, including English and mathematics (or equivalent)
31. A minimum of three A-Levels or Level 3 Btec in relevant subject
