A Vacancy at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated and hard-working Medical laboratory assistants, with a keen eye for detail, to join our very busy Microbiology team at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Applicants should have a good basic standard of education to match NVQ Level 2, GCSE or equivalent in Maths, English, and Science subjects, plus basic keyboard and communication skills.
Experience is preferable but not essential, as full training shall be provided.
Your duties will involve work in Bacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology, Serology and Molecular.
In addition to the receipt of goods and deliveries, the post holder will be responsible for sorting, labelling, booking and culturing a variety of samples.
The successful applicant will be expected to safely deal with laboratory waste.
All duties and tasks should be performed in accordance with SOP's and if queries are encountered these should be referred to the MLA Supervisor, Biomedical Scientist or Senior BMS, as appropriate.

The dept. is accredited to UKAS ISO 15189:2012 standards and currently in a transition to UKAS 15189:2022 standards.
We serve a population of approximately half a million people and processes over 410,000 tests per year providing a comprehensive diagnostic service including Bacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology, Serology and Molecular testing.
The successful candidate shall be required to work 1 in 4 Saturdays.
The department is currently going through a management of change (MoC) process. As a result, candidates should be prepared to work shifts and/or to work from a different site(s) in the future. Full details shall be provided at interview.
