Our client is an award-winning international engineering consultancy, currently undergoing rapid growth. They are seeking a Senior / Principal Freshwater Ecologist to join their Environment business to work alongside engineers, environmental scientists, and other staff on our portfolio of infrastructure projects in Ireland, particularly in the water and transport sectors, as well as on specialist ecology projects.
The successful applicant will have an excellent understanding of all regulatory and statutory requirements pertaining to ecology/biodiversity in Ireland.
Responsibilities include:
1. Preparation of high-quality reports including Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA), and biodiversity chapters for Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIAR); as well as Appropriate Assessments.
2. Undertaking ecological field surveys and providing mentoring to less experienced staff.
3. Design and coordination of ecology surveys (ecology staff and sub-consultants).
4. Interpreting ecological monitoring data.
5. Managing data using GIS (QGIS, MapInfo, or ArcGIS) is desirable.
6. Engaging with external stakeholders as necessary.
7. Delivering work to the highest possible standards and striving to improve the quality of work.
Requirements
* A degree in ecology or related subject.
* A minimum of 6 years post-graduate experience.
* Member of CIEEM, or equivalent professional body, desirable.
* Experience working in environmental consultancy, desirable but not required.
* Experience in field surveys – Phase 1 habitat survey/assessment, invasive species survey desirable.
* Detailed knowledge of Appropriate Assessment legislation within Ireland required.
* A full clean driver's license.
