The Opportunity: We are currently seeking a Senior Engineer – Product Design who can be based at either our Welshpool (W.A), Wacol (QLD) or Fairfield (N.S.W) branch. The role will be required to work closely with Sales, Technical Support and other Design Engineers to collaborate across product lines in search of standardisation. A key objective in the role is to apply SLQDC Safety in design, Legislative compliance, Quality design, Delivery of local options and new equipment in a cost-effective and proactive manner.
The Engineering Product Design team is responsible for the technical review and design of any new design requests (LOP, Equipment modification and or Special Design Requests (SDR)) to provide Sales teams and our customers with safe, compliant and high-quality machines. This responsibility extends from initial scoping, feasibility and specification via the Sales Support team to Product Design and finally Production Engineering.
The position will have direct reports which may include graduate/professional engineers and offshore designers.
Key Responsibilities:
* Creation of accurate designs whilst communicating requirements with sales and internal departments.
* Assess LOP, Equipment modification and or Special Design Requests and provide Engineering Design solutions through to the required Engineering Workflow as required.
* Work with and manage third-party vendors to deliver effective solutions to Customer requirements.
* Work with Product managers to review and implement recommendations to ensure efficient operation of Design, Engineering and Quality processes.
* Liaise with other parts of the Komatsu organisation as required in pursuit of preparing comprehensive Design solutions.
* Work with Product Managers to implement standardisation of technical solutions and Designs where possible.
* Optimise the assembly, sub-assembly flow and logistics to the right rate and quality of output in order to meet supply needs.
* Manage the engineering data systems (QMS/NCs, Windchill PLM) and ensure data integrity.
* Overseeing creation and delivery of as-built manuals and LinkOne Manuals.
* Working with the Komatsu Australia Technical and Safety Departments to ensure that all Engineering activities conform to and are acceptable to all Workplace Health and Safety and Engineering Services ISO 90001 accredited processes as defined in Engineering Services Support Manual.

What we are looking for:
* Must be technically competent to understand and deliver Design requirements and implementing revised or new processes and procedures.
* Knowledge of Microsoft products (Outlook, Word and Excel) and Design software (CAD, Solidworks, Solid Edge, PTC Creo, Windchill, Hyperworks).
* Good understanding of Quality Management and Continuous Improvement techniques.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Sound analytical, organisation and problem-solving skills.
* High personal standards and values.
* Good understanding of mechanical and hydraulic engineering and a working knowledge of low voltage electrical systems.
* Good understanding and ability to carry out structural calculations from first principles and use FEA software (Ansys, stand7 Creo simulate).
* Knowledge of engineering Design processes.

* Conceptual design through detailed design including validation and verification.
* Ability to develop and clearly articulate engineering activity plans.
* Ability to communicate project status in simple quantitative relating to SLQDC objectives.
* Ability to travel to Komatsu sites, suppliers, and customers Nationally if required.
* Ability to attend workshop, access/enter and inspect machines in build and at customer sites.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree qualification in Engineering (Required) and be a RPEQ or working towards RPEQ accreditation.
