CAMHS Eating Disorder Occupational Therapist

Calderdale and Kirklees Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) has an exciting opportunity to recruit to a new post within the Eating Disorder and ARFID team within the service.
The successful candidate will be a part of a new pathway and will support the team in developing and driving this pathway within the Eating Disorders service, as well as supporting the Eating Disorder Team. This will include supporting service development based on best practice guidelines and existing research and evidence.
You will deliver high-quality interventions following care planning, treatment, and regular reviews (CPA) for children and young people.
This post is part of a service development to embed an ARFID pathway within it to ensure the needs of these children, young people, and their families are met.
By identifying children and young people earlier and providing the right support, we can work with families to provide a dedicated treatment plan to prevent escalation, reduce long-term difficulties, and decrease the pressures in the ED and acute services.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will:
1. Be passionate about improving the delivery of evidence-based treatments for children, young people, and their families.

3. Have knowledge and experience of Eating Disorders and ARFID.
4. Have experience of working in a CAMHS setting.
5. Have excellent assessment, risk assessment, care planning, and reviewing skills.
6. Be able to work and participate within an MDT.
7. Manage a caseload of young people with ARFID presentation/diagnoses.
8. Attend a variety of meetings to discuss complex cases as well as liaise with other services.
9. Be able to consult with others to give advice and guidance regarding Eating Disorders/ARFID.
10. The post also involves attendance at a variety of meetings with our external partners/agencies to ensure effective pathways of care.
11. Delivery of group interventions where appropriate.
12. To personally maintain accurate records.
13. To liaise with and actively promote excellent working relationships and support the Senior Mental Health Practitioner with communication & working practices with referring teams and partner agencies. This would include the provision of expert advice to multi-agency partners.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will be part of a cohesive and enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team. You will be involved in providing specialist occupational therapy assessment and treatment for individuals receiving in-patient care enabling service users to engage in a wide range of individual and group-based treatment activities. You will be actively involved in the promotion of occupational therapy within the service area.
The post holder will be part of a well-recognized service that places emphasis on staff support and professional development, and you will be expected to participate in staff training and supervision.
To manage an individual caseload, providing Occupational Therapy assessments for service users receiving in-patient care and within the community, prioritizing clinical needs and providing an effective service.
To work with service users to identify Occupational Therapy goals as part of the overall care plan, using occupational therapy assessment tools based on current evidence-based best practice.
To plan and implement a client-centered Occupational Therapy treatment program on an individual and/or group basis, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.
To monitor, evaluate, and modify treatment in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.
To demonstrate a broad level of understanding of the effect of disability and provide training and advice on lifestyle changes and adaptations to the client's social and physical environment.
To be responsible for providing Occupational Therapy advice in the multidisciplinary team assessment of service users and carers to ensure that an integrated approach to assessment and treatment is achieved and maintained.
To work proactively alongside ward staff, community agencies, and voluntary agencies to provide a seamless service for service users.
To maintain an effective communication network within the team, and to liaise with other agencies and disciplines from the voluntary and statutory sectors to ensure that service user needs are met.
To maintain up-to-date service user records and activity data in accordance with professional and Trust standards.
To provide an Occupational Therapy perspective in multi-disciplinary team meetings, ward rounds, clinics, and case conferences as required.
To provide Occupational Therapy reports (as required) on assessment and treatment by written and verbal reports to Consultants, GPs, and other agencies involved, and to ensure that all correspondence relating to caseload is dealt with promptly.
To empower families and carers to support individuals with mental health problems.
To involve clients in all aspects of assessment, treatment, and evaluation of treatment programs.
To promote the positive health and well-being of the individual.
To manage own caseload and day-to-day activities.
To co-ordinate the day-to-day activities of junior staff in the service area.
To provide effective guidance and supervision for junior staff.
To take responsibility for risk management within the areas of occupational therapy practice.
To co-ordinate statistical collections in line with Trust policies.
To ensure responsible management of petty cash.
To participate in the recruitment, appointment, and induction of staff, ensuring that practice in these areas is anti-discriminatory.
Person Specification
Training
* Practice placement educators certificate (or to achieve within 12 months).
* Clinical supervisors training (or willingness to complete).
* To be willing to undertake postgraduate training to further skills, knowledge, and expertise relevant to the clinical area.
* Postgraduate training relevant to mental health/learning disabilities.
Qualifications
* COT Diploma, BSc/BA, MA Occupational Therapy.
* HCPC State Registration.
* Leadership/first line management certificate.
Special Knowledge & Skills
* Specialist knowledge and application of Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions relevant to mental health/learning disabilities.
* Extensive clinical practice skills including individual and group work.
* Understanding of occupational therapy outcome measures.
* Detailed knowledge of current legislation/guidance e.g. CPA Care Programme Approach, Risk assessment and management.
* Able to work as part of an MDT and independently.
