We are looking for a compassionate and motivated Housing Support Worker to join our team About Bernard Brett House and Bramble Court Both schemes are part of Peabody’s Young People’s Service in Essex, providing a safe and supportive environment for young people aged 16-21, including care leavers. Many of our residents have experienced trauma, mental health challenges, or substance misuse, and we are here to help them regain stability and independence. Are You the Right Fit? We are looking for someone who: Inspires and empowers young people to develop independent living skills and achieve their goals. Is creative and proactive in planning and delivering engaging activities that are both fun and meaningful. Has a genuine passion for working with young people who have complex needs, offering guidance and emotional support. Thrives in a team but can also work effectively on their own initiative. Communicates with confidence and has strong IT skills (Word/Excel) to keep records and liaise with partner agencies. Knows how to navigate support networks, helping young people access essential services and opportunities. Understands safeguarding and can identify potential risks to ensure young people’s safety and well-being. Skills and Experience We’re looking for someone with: A background working with vulnerable young people in social housing, education, or the charity sector, focusing on their development and personal growth. Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and trauma-informed principles. Experience of working with young people who display challenging behaviour, with the ability to engage, be approachable, and provide constructive support. Great IT (Word/Excel) and communication skills, with a knack for creating strong professional relationships. The ability to work under pressure and multitask to meet the needs of young people and the service. This means: Managing a caseload of young people and meeting them regularly to review progress and set achievable goals. Helping residents with budgeting, claiming benefits, and developing essential life skills to prepare for independent living. Supporting them to access the housing register and find suitable long-term accommodation. Creating a positive, non-judgmental environment where young people feel valued and supported. Bringing your unique interests and skills—whether it’s music, sports, art, gardening, or film—to enhance our community and engage young people. This role requires an Enhanced DBS check. Candidates must successfully pass the first-stage interview to progress to the final in-person interview. Online assessments will take place between 4th and 7th March for shortlisted candidates. Virtual first-stage interviews will be held on 10th and 11th March. Final in-person interviews will take place on 14th March at the scheme.
