The Role
We are looking for an experienced Human Resources Manager to lead our small HR team, overseeing the people function for both the company and district council. You will work closely supporting our five hundred staff, Manager’s, Senior Leadership team and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have strong people skills, resilience, and an approachable demeanour.
This role requires a proactive individual who can effectively manage, train, and develop a small HR team while ensuring compliance with employment laws and best practices. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in employee relations, policy development, and strategic HR planning to support the company’s overall business objectives.
Main responsibilities
* Manage complex employee relations casework including, disciplinaries, grievances, absences, and sickness.
* Develop HR policy and procedures in line with the company’s long-term goals.
* Identify potential risks and challenges in employee relationships, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.
* Manage ACAS conciliation and Employment Tribunal (ET) claims, including case reviews, document preparation, risk assessment, and resolution recommendations.
* Lead employee consultations, redeployment, TUPE transfers, and redundancy processes.
* Support training and coaching to line managers on ER best practices, including investigations, hearings, decision-making, and note-taking.
* Participate in the implementation of specific projects, procedures, and guidelines to help align the workforce with the strategic goals of the organisation.
* Support change management processes.
* Plan, monitor, and assess HR activities, including employee relations, grievance handling, and management coaching.
* Identify and implement internal improvements, including team restructuring and morale-boosting initiatives.
* Support talent and succession planning.
Skills
* Holds a CIPD Level 7 qualification, with evidence of ongoing professional development (CPD).
* Experience of employment legislation, TUPE regulations, and tribunal procedures.
* Possesses good knowledge of UK employment law.
* Excellent communication and people skills with an ethical and empathetic approach.
* Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
* Experience in strategic HR planning, training, and team development.
* Demonstrates integrity, professionalism, and approachability as a trusted advisor.
Qualifications
* Degree (or equivalent) in Human Resources, or a related field.
* Holds a CIPD Level 7 qualification, with evidence of ongoing professional development (CPD).
