The Team Leader will be responsible for providing line management and clinical / operational leadership for the Podiatry team, across all podiatric specialities.
The successful candidate will work as a member of the clinical team, providing assessment, diagnosis and treatment and liaise with community services and external agencies to facilitate a safe discharge from hospital.
They will also provide clinical and operational leadership within the team and services provided, acting as a role model and promoting the development of services moving forward.
Main duties of the job
* To take day-to-day responsibility for the leadership, delivery and operational management of the staff within the team.
* To work closely with the Clinical Leads to ensure equity of access to relevant supervision and the achievement of competencies required for the maintenance of HCPC registration of team members.
* To be responsible for developing and monitoring the standard of service provision across the team through the implementation of clinical governance requirements i.e. protocols and guidelines, clinical audit and risk management policies.
* To contribute to business plans for the managed areas.
* To deputise for more senior staff when appropriate.
* To facilitate in-service training, research and audit activities within the designated team.
* To teach, develop and educate team members to ensure service needs are met.
* To support the development of students within the team.
* To be responsible for the provision of highly specialised assessment, treatment and management of patients referred to the Team.
* As an autonomous practitioner using advanced and highly specialised skills and knowledge, determine clinical diagnoses and treatment indicated for a complex caseload and maintain records.

Job responsibilities
The podiatry department is made up of 29 individuals, ranging from laboratory technicians and podiatry assistants to advanced specialist podiatrists and clinical leads, in a variety of posts from Band 2 to Band 7.
The department spans across Stockport, providing clinic access for patients in 12 different sites, from Stepping hill hospital to GP surgeries, health centres and patients homes.
Stockport Podiatry offers a wide range of specialist input to the residents of Stockport- this includes Nail surgery, an urgent care clinic, patient education classes, high risk foot care, specialist adult and children's musculoskeletal assessment and provisions, as well as multidisciplinary team input from the diabetes and vascular teams, orthopaedics and minor surgeries teams via our High Risk Foot Team.

Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
* Diploma/Degree in Podiatry and HCPC registration.
* Evidence of continuous and current clinical, professional, leadership and academic development relevant to clinical fields.
* Formal management and leadership skills training.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of a range of relevant conditions and their management.
* An understanding of Clinical governance and evidence-based practice.
* Knowledge of recent NHS and Trust developments and their impact on the service.
Experience
* Recent experience of working in the NHS including recent experience at Band 7 level.
* Broad base of clinical experience prior to specialising.
* Experience of student education within the workplace up to graduate level.
* Experience of clinical audit and service evaluation.
Skills & Abilities
* Advanced reasoning skills.
* High level problem-solving skills.
* Ability to establish good working relationships.
