In this role you will work with the Infrastructure Lead to design, implement, and maintain our IT infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in system administration, networking, and cloud services. This role involves ensuring the stability, security, and efficiency of the on-premises and cloud IT infrastructure, eg telecoms, network, hypervisors, servers, switches, storage systems and server applications. Responsibilities Infrastructure Management: Ensure the availability, reliability, and scalability of IT infrastructure to meet business needs. Implement infrastructure changes, upgrades, patches, and system maintenance activities. Report on system performance and capacity. Resolve issues to restore/maintain IT service availability to staff. Security and Compliance: Enforce security policies and procedures to protect IT infrastructure from cyber threats. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and best practices for the IT infrastructure. (eg CE, CIS, Secure by Design) Project Support: Ensure that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. Vendor and Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand their IT needs and provide effective solutions. Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends. Evaluate and recommend new technologies to improve IT infrastructure efficiency and effectiveness. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and user satisfaction. About You Other responsibilities as required. Qualifications Essential: A levels/BTEC in STEM subjects. Desirable: Relevant industry training, eg Microsoft certification. Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field is preferred. Skills and competencies Essential Strong experience in IT infrastructure and systems integration experience. Strong knowledge of WAN / LAN network architecture/systems, server systems, storage technologies, virtualization, identity services, systems management tools, security tools, internet services (eg Domain Registrations, DNS, SMTP) and certificate services. Strong experience with on-premises, cloud and hybrid infrastructure environments. Strong experience with the implementation and support of server-based business applications, eg software engineering, CAD, document management, Jira, Gitlab etc Strong experience Backup and Recovery tools to support DR and Business continuity plans. Solid understanding of IT security principles and practices. Manage licenses, DNS, Domain registration and other recurring services. A strong technical grounding and experience working with a range of vendors. A sound understanding of cloud services, particularly Microsoft 365, including with on-premise and cloud identity services, eg Microsoft Entra and Active Directory. Experience of on-premise and cloud endpoint, security and compliance tools, eg Microsoft - Conditional Access, Intune, Defender, Sentinel. Experience with Linux workstations, servers and hypervisors. Experience of Microsoft Windows Workstation, Server and Hyper-V. Creation and maintenance of documentation. Desirable Experience in an engineering company. Experience of IT systems within an MOD supplier. Systems within secure/regulated environments. Personal Attributes Must be a British Citizen or have an existing right to work in the UK Ability to hold Security Clearance – 5 years residence in the UK The ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders is required.
