Job Title : SEMH Tutor Location : Pontefract, West Yorkshire Contract Type : Long-term role with potential to go permanent Leader Education is seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Tutor to support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a specialist setting in Pontefract. This role is ideal for an individual with a passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential in a supportive and structured environment. Responsibilities : Deliver tailored academic and life skills sessions to students with SEMH needs, either 1:1 or in small groups. Adapt teaching methods to engage and inspire students who may have experienced trauma, disengagement from education, or challenging behaviors. Support students in developing emotional resilience, self-regulation, and confidence in learning. Build positive and trusting relationships with students, acting as a mentor and role model. Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and external agencies to create personalised learning plans. Implement effective behavior management strategies in line with the setting's policies. Track and report student progress, celebrating achievements and identifying areas for further support. The Successful Candidate Will Have : Experience working with students with SEMH needs, either in an education or alternative provision setting. The ability to differentiate learning materials and engage students with diverse needs. Strong behavior management skills and the ability to de-escalate challenging situations. A compassionate, patient, and proactive approach to supporting young people. A valid enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one). A teaching qualification (desirable but not essential).
