Description of Job
Are you a confident team builder with experience of growing a resourcing church? Do you have a proven track record of developing individuals for lay and ordained leadership? Do you have the spiritual wisdom, skills and emotional intelligence to take an established church into a new season of growth? If so, is God calling you to Arnold?
Arnold is a vibrant market town in the Borough of Gedling five miles from Nottingham city centre. The town has excellent leisure facilities, attractive parks and amenities alongside excellent local schools, both primary and secondary.
The next vicar of St Mary’s will be working with the PCC, the diocese and our national Church adviser to oversee and implement the missional plan to grow St Mary’s and create new worshipping communities and new congregations across the parish over the next five years. To achieve this numerical and spiritual potential, the vicar will be involved in appointing an ordained mission associate alongside paid lay roles (operations manager, children and families’ worker, worship leader) for at least the next five years funded by the Archbishop’s Council.
Mission Priorities
1. Lead a step-change at St Mary’s in numerical growth, in a younger age profile and in revitalised faith and worship.
2. Set the vision and growth plan for this new chapter, accompanied with intentional prayer.
3. Work with the PCC and diocesan personnel to create the missional design and the role descriptions for the extra paid posts funded by national church investment.
4. Build collaborative teams including paid staff and unpaid leaders who are confident in God, exercising their gifting and understand their roles.
5. Develop a discipling strategy for reaching, involving and retaining children, young people and young families.
6. Bring imagination, clarity and purpose to different and complementary worship styles that help people to encounter God.
7. Create and implement a financial strategy to reach the church’s financial responsibilities including 100% payment of parish share.
Candidate Requirements
1. Deep love of God and a desire to draw others into relationship with Him.
2. Experience of leading a growing church and developing effective, flourishing teams.
3. Comfortable relating to the range of people who live in Arnold and enjoy living amongst us, laughing with us and leading us.
4. Able to teach, envision, inspire and communicate well.
5. Able staff team leader, good at supervision and line management.
6. Loves equipping and releasing lay people in ministries and teams.
7. Can appreciate all that is good from the past while creating a confident vision of ‘growing to give ourselves away’ as a resourcing church for Arnold and the area.
8. Will embrace and develop a range of worship styles and traditions.
We welcome applications from suitably qualified clergy from all sections of the community and we strive to be an equal opportunity employer. Enhanced DBS clearance is required for this post.
