We require reliable receptionists to join our friendly team.
The successful candidates will be required to:
1. Help patients face to face and on the phone
2. Make appointments and enter information on a clinical computer system
3. Undertake general office and reception duties, including scanning
4. Support colleagues and other health professionals
Experience is preferred but not essential; applicants must have a good general standard of education including Maths and English and the ability to remain calm in a busy and sometimes challenging environment, excellent customer service skills, and the sensitivity to deal with our patients in a kind, efficient, and confidential manner.

Main Purpose of Post:
Receive, assist, and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient, and effective way.
Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors and professionals, either in person or via the telephone.

Job responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities of Post to include but are not limited to:
Administration
1. To have a thorough knowledge of all Practice procedures.
2. To work in accordance with written protocols.
3. Pulling/filing notes and updating, or for information, as necessary.
4. Filing, record keeping, and distribution of documents is undertaken accurately, efficiently, and promptly.
5. Fax and photocopy as requested.
6. Setting out letters, new prescriptions, and repeat prescriptions for checking by the doctor before collection.
7. Receiving messages for doctors, nurses, primary and secondary healthcare workers and professionals.
Reception
1. Receiving and directing patients, consulting with members of the practice team.
2. Handing completed repeat prescriptions to patients and checking names and addresses.
3. Be able to cover all reception positions as necessary.
4. Ensure that the surgery premises are kept clean and tidy.
5. Receiving and recording requests for home visits.
Appointments
1. Making new and follow-up appointments and receiving requests for repeat prescriptions.
2. Process appointment requests for today & future appointments from patients by telephone and in person.
3. Deal with visits requests.
Computer
1. Registrations of new patients, computer data entry, and medical records.
2. Register Patient for Patient Access and promote this service.
3. Process patients' change of address, computer data, and medical records (have knowledge of practice area).
4. Process repeat prescription requests in accordance with practice guidelines.
5. Maintain computer records accurately as per Practice procedure.
6. Scanning documents as per workflow process.
Telephone
1. Have working knowledge of the telephone system, during and after hours.
2. Restoring telephone and computer services.
Other Tasks
1. Ensure that an adequate supply of stationery is available in the consulting rooms and the reception area.
2. Ensure building security; have thorough knowledge of doors, windows, heating, ventilation, and alarm systems.
3. Provide drinks and refreshments for colleagues, all other professions, and visitors as required.
4. Any other tasks allocated by the manager are to be performed with accuracy and promptness.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Good sound basic education
* GCSE Maths or equivalent
* GCSE English or equivalent
Experience
* Practical experience of working with others
* Experience of using own initiative
* Experience of using clinical systems
* Practical experience working as a GP receptionist

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
£11.50 an hour increases to £12.00 when fully trained.
