The role
As a Senior Mechanical Designer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You'll work on cutting-edge projects enhancing the Royal Navy's operational readiness and make visible contributions to the UK's defence capabilities by joining the growing Submarine Support Engineering team, renowned for engineering excellence.
Day-to-day, you'll collaborate with the Waterfront and Design teams, reporting to the Engineering Manager to support submarine upgrade design outputs. You'll manage a variety of projects on complex assets, with key responsibilities including:
* Identify and apply relevant procedures, codes, standards, and tools to engineering activities.
* Provide technical support to optimize processes and resolve standard problems, minimizing production interruptions.
* Serve as a discipline point of contact with engineering colleagues and stakeholders to ensure design coordination and functionality.
* Contribute to design reviews to maintain design intent throughout the lifecycle.
* Develop discipline Designers to their full technical capability through leadership.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Senior Mechanical Designer
* Proficient in reading and producing mechanical engineering drawings.
* Understanding of ship/submarine mechanical systems.
* Knowledge of mechanical manufacturing techniques and installation requirements.
* Experience in a mechanical engineering design environment.
* Proven knowledge of design deliverables and team leadership experience.
Qualifications for the Senior Mechanical Designer
* ONC/HNC in a relevant discipline, or completion of an appropriate engineering apprenticeship, and/or equivalent experience
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
