The Marketing Directorate is responsible for providing strategic leadership and innovation across all elements of brand identity, creative, digital and marketing delivery. The department consists of four teams – Digital Delivery, Global Marketing, Intermediary Marketing and Business Events - through collaboration and application of their expertise, these teams facilitate delivery of a portfolio of strategic projects, digital products, and programmes across all areas of VisitScotland and in conjunction with wider strategic partners.
The Creative Studio champions Scotland’s destination brand, ensuring that all creative, communication, content and campaign outputs are aligned to the values, essence, and attributes of the brand. The team are the guardians of the organisation’s brand identity and various sub-brands, event and product propositions as well as supporting Brand Scotland. The team is integral to the development and delivery of all marketing and the growth of VisitScotland’s channels and partnerships.
Background to the role
Reporting into the Senior Manager Creative Studio, the Senior Design Lead is part of the Creative Studio Leadership Team alongside the Senior Creative Lead. The Senior Design Lead is responsible for managing the Design Team Leaders and the Image Production Manager as well as responsibility for the wellbeing and support of eight members of the design team within the Studio. The role is a lead creative role within the team and the post-holder is responsible for, and is central to, the creative design and development process across the Creative Studio and broader business.
The Senior Design Lead plays a key role in the Digital Leadership Team, overseeing the delivery of the VisitScotland Design System and collaborating closely with Senior Managers within Digital.
The Senior Design Lead will be responsible for managing, supporting and leading the team design portfolio and will be responsible for the successful delivery of a wide range of design activity across the business. You will be responsible for the creative phase and design delivery of priority digital projects, brand development, new digital assets, campaigns, core business, print and content projects. The Senior Design Lead will also collaborate with the studio leadership team on forward planning for the team, projects, technologies, brand and design maintenance, displaying high levels of creative skill, project and stakeholder management.
Contract Type: Fixed term 20 months
Salary Grade: Grade H (£47,095 to 53,647)

Qualifications
What you must have
• Proven experience of working in a lead role in a studio environment with comprehensive understanding of end-to-end delivery of design for print and digital communications (including brand identity and development, corporate communications, integrated campaigns, information design, advertising and motion design) and working alongside account managers to plan and schedule workload
• Strong management and Creative Leadership skills, with the ability to coach and mentor staff through development and demonstrable skills in creative direction for omni-channel, integrated campaigns
• Proven experience in product design in an agile environment and iterative design processes, including management of Design Systems and sound understanding of user-informed decision making, testing and compliance with digital best practice and accessibility standards
• Qualified to HND or Degree level in Design or equivalent experience, backed up by a sound portfolio that demonstrates in-depth knowledge of design, brand management and development, and creative flair across a variety of projects.
• Strong influencing and communication skills to advocate for creative services and design standards across the business, leading robust design reviews, providing feedback and direction
• Sound knowledge of new technologies and awareness of future design advancements
• Experienced across major design software and systems including Adobe Creative Cloud Suite and Figma
• A sound understanding of marketing principles and channel best practice
What we’d like you to have
• Sound knowledge of Scotland and the Scottish tourism product.
• Knowledge of agile and incremental project management and how design operates effectively within this environment
• Experience in HTML5 digital adverts
• VisitScotland actively promotes the Gaelic language and an interest in the language or possession of Gaelic Language skills would be considered a desirable attribute in any prospective employee
