Job Title: Assistant Chef
In your role as an Assistant Chef at HC-One, you’ll value one thing above all: kindness. It carries across every aspect of our Dementia, Nursing, Residential, and Specialist Care homes. Every single person who works here understands that our Residents are people just like them with their own stories to tell. By joining HC-One, you’ll have a wonderful opportunity to give something back to those people.
As an Assistant Chef, your responsibilities will include cooking and serving nutritious, healthy meals that our Residents will love. You’ll provide outstanding support to our First Chef, taking charge in their absence. Whether managing food stock, optimizing your budget, coaching colleagues, or supervising kitchen clean-up, always prioritize Resident wellbeing.
HC-One is looking for an Assistant Chef with at least a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate and a good understanding of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP). Beyond qualifications, we value your positive energy and ability to get along with people. You should be organized, meet deadlines, present food attractively, and follow recipes accurately. When communicating with Residents or colleagues, demonstrate kindness and consideration.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. You should be able to recognize signs of possible abuse, harm, or neglect, and know what actions to take if concerns arise. All colleagues are required to attend safeguarding training relevant to their role and undertake additional training as needed. You should also be able to seek advice and escalate concerns appropriately.
We’ll provide full training, offering a great opportunity to learn new skills. In return, you will enjoy a variety of benefits and services supporting your physical and psychological well-being, including:
* Paid Enhanced DBS/PVG
* Free uniform
* Hourly rate subject to experience and qualifications
* Nutritious meal during shifts of eight hours or more
* Company pension scheme
* 28 days annual leave inclusive of bank holidays
* Group life assurance cover
* Wagestream – flexible access to pay and financial wellbeing support
* Award-winning learning and development opportunities
* GP online service for 24/7 virtual GP consultations
* Learning from experienced colleagues within a supportive team
* Colleague discounts at over 1600 high street stores
* Wellbeing support through an Employee Assistance Programme
* Recognition schemes such as ‘Kindness in Care’ and Long Service Awards
* Refer a Friend scheme with up to £1000 per successful referral
We are committed to quick onboarding from offer to start date. We value diversity and inclusivity, inviting applicants from all backgrounds to join our HC-One family.
