We are now recruiting for a Freight and Logistics Operations Manager based in Basildon.
This is a new role needed to drive product development and innovation of the 3PL product and to manage third-party logistics service providers to enhance relationships.
You will support the Branch Manager in the day-to-day running and ongoing development of the Basildon offices/warehouses and West Horndon warehouses, providing air/ocean/road transportation, 3PL logistics services, warehousing, and value-added services.
Assist in the management of all branch activities via a team of department managers and staff and recruitment of quality personnel. Support and assist with meeting and exceeding budgeted targeted revenue, gross profit, operating expense, and net income goals and plans.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Hands-on management of day-to-day running of the Basildon warehouse and freight office.
2. Ensure policies and procedures are followed in accordance with company mandates and external certifications.
3. Assist in the development and maintenance of a high-performing, customer-focused branch facility.
4. Implement and manage strategic and operational plans to meet short and long-term objectives and goals.
5. Ensure employees are trained, measured, and managed in the execution of company operational processes and standards.
6. Negotiate and monitor supplier contracts as necessary.
7. Prepare timely, accurate management information and reporting as required.
8. Support with interview, hiring, and monitoring staffing levels.
9. Administer performance reviews.
10. Ensure a clean, properly organised, safe, healthy, and professional business facility and environment for all personnel.
11. Client liaison and escalation point for problems.
12. Ensure service levels are maintained.
13. Support the teams in their daily duties.
14. Address failures and analyse root cause.
15. Implement corrective actions to avoid repetition of failures.
16. Deal with non-standard issues as they arise.
17. Train new staff in all necessary procedures.
18. Empower staff and encourage progression.
19. Identify and implement new procedures.
Person Specification:
1. Demonstrated track record in leading/managing operations teams.
2. Demonstrated strong leadership, financial analysis, negotiation, and customer satisfaction skills.
3. Knowledge & experience of all transport modes: Air, Ocean, and Road.
4. Knowledge & experience of 3PL and warehousing activities.
5. Knowledge of customs formalities, ideally with experience of AEO.
6. Excellent interpersonal, communication, change management, and presentation skills (written and verbal).
7. Demonstrated ability to effectively resolve customer complaints and problems and restore or maintain business.
8. Organised with excellent attention to detail.
9. Personable - will be liaising with many individuals, internally & externally.
Package and Benefits:
1. Salary: £40,000 to £50,000.
2. Annual leave: 31 days, increases after 3 years' service by 1 day a year, up to a further 5 days.
