Clinical Fellow In-patient Low Secure Forensic Psychiatry, Morris Ward.
Morris Ward (Low Secure Forensic Rehabilitation Unit) is looking for a dedicated Core Trainee (1-3) Grade Doctor to join our excellent multidisciplinary team at Sunflowers Court, Goodmayes Hospital to support with the day-to-day clinical work on the ward and a Service Development & Improvement Plan (SDIP) aimed at improving the early detection and management of chronic physical health conditions (eg. Diabetes, Heart conditions, COPD) for our long stay rehabilitation patients, access to national health screening programmes and to improve the unit's collaboration with local Primary Health Care Providers (GPs).
Main duties of the job
1. To be responsible for organising and prioritising own and others workload in the day-to-day allocation of work.
2. To deputise when required in the team consultant's absence and delegate appropriately to other medical staff.
3. To have organisational knowledge relating to Trust protocols and procedures and adhere to them.
4. To be responsible for providing accurate records of information required by the Trust for audit purposes.
5. To ensure effective risk management at team level by accident/incident reporting, assessing, and controlling risk and ensuring residual risks are added to the Trust's risk register.
Clinical Skills
1. To act as an autonomous, registered practitioner who is legally and professionally accountable for their own unsupervised actions guided by the professional code of conduct and Trust guidelines and protocols.
2. The post holder will have full registration with a licence to practice on the General Medical Council (GMC).
3. Further professional knowledge will have been gained through accredited courses, workshops, study and in house training programmes.
4. To be responsible, and accountable, for service delivery to clients/patients.
5. To be able to assess and develop care plans to meet the complex needs of patients with a variety of conditions. This includes chronic, acute and palliative care within own competencies, recognising own limitations and seeking advice when necessary. This will include continuously evaluating and acting on outcomes.
Communication Skills
1. To have a wide range of knowledge in approaches to communicating and managing patient care.
2. To be able to effectively communicate with colleagues, peers, senior managers, and clinical leads within the Trust.
3. To be able to communicate complex patient related information facilitating positive outcomes and ensuring collaborative working.
4. Participate in the review and development of clinical policies and identifies improvements to service provision.
Working for our organisation
Morris Ward is a purpose-built stand-alone 15-bed adult male low-secure long-stay forensic rehabilitation unit located at Goodmayes Hospital, Redbridge. The unit opened for service in 2011 and is co-located with 11 other adult and older adult acute mental health wards and 1 male PICU which are under the Acute & Rehabilitation Directorate (ARD). Morris Ward (LSU) is part of the North London Forensic Collaborative (NLFC) made up of Forensic Services from 4 other Trusts (ELFT, BEH, WLMHT & CNWL). The low secure ward admits patients from the NELFT Boroughs of Waltham Forest, Redbridge, Havering, Barking & Dagenham, and occasionally out-of-area patients as part of the North London Forensic Collaborative mutual aid arrangement. The current length of stay ranges between 18 - 24 months. The service is currently rated as 'Good' by the CQC; 'Outstanding' in the 'Responsive' and 'Caring' domains.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* This is a substantive full time fixed-term (1 year initially, with possible extensions) post with negotiable Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs), CPD and academic meeting activities.
* The post is based predominantly at Morris ward (Low secure Unit), Goodmayes Hospital, Ilford, IG3 8XJ. NELFT.
* This post is currently occupied by a Bank Dr due to an established vacancy.
* The post holder will report to Dr Emmanuel Okoro (Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist and Clinical Director of NELFT's Forensic Services), who will provide clinical supervision for the post holder.
* The current Associate Medical Director (AMD) for the Acute & Rehabilitation Directorate is Dr Yasmin Sultan (Consultant Psychiatrist), and the Medical Director for Acute Mental Health and Urgent Care is Dr Sarah Dracass (Consultant Psychiatrist).
* The post holder will have an annual job planning review with Dr Okoro. A review of the post holder's Personal Development Plan (PDP) will form part of this meeting. If there are proposed workload changes, to support safe working and identify the need for any additional support, a job planning review will be arranged in a timely manner.
* The post holder will be expected to work flexibly according to clinical need and as directed by the team consultant.
* The post holder will be a GMC registered clinician who will assess, manage, plan and deliver care, including being professionally and legally accountable.
* The post holder will support their peers and the wider multidisciplinary team and be an effective team member whilst working on their own initiative. They will have a commitment to collaborative working and actively supporting and liaising with other health and social professionals and agencies.
