A bit about the role As a cleaner in the mother and baby unit nursery, you'll play a crucial role in maintaining the safe and hygienic environment for mothers and their babies. This position requires 6 hours of work each week ideally on Monday, Wednesdays and Friday afternoons from 16:00 PM till 18:00 PM. Approximately one hour of this cleaning time per shift is spent in the unit alongside the mothers and their children. Whilst ensuring cleanliness in key areas such as the adult toilet, children's nursery, changing facilities and kitchen there may also be additional tasks such as cleaning windows on an ad hoc basis. High standards of hygiene are essential for the well-being of the families, to qualify applicants must have undergone a HMP prison vetting and a DBS check. Flexibility in working days can be discussed to meet the needs of the unit. About the service The mother and baby unit at Askham Grange prison provides a vital service by offering a designated living accommodation where mothers can stay with their children up to approximately 18 months old. This supported environment allows families to maintain their bond during challenging times. The unit is staffed by trained nursery nurses and carefully selected prison officers, ensuring that mothers receive the necessary support while fostering a nurturing atmosphere for their children. This unique service plays an essential role in promoting the well-being of both mothers and their little ones during their time in the prison system. How you'll help to create brighter futures Some key responsibilities for the cleaner role are. Undertaking cleaning of designated premises, work and service areas, as detailed in the cleaning schedule ensuring completion within the set timescales. Maintaining a stock of cleaning supplies necessary to complete tasks and where necessary, alert management to the need to replenish the stock. Being responsible for the safe use and storage of cleaning materials, in line with Health & Safety at Work Regulations and Action for Children policies.
