Job summary The South West Genomic Medicine Service Alliance (SW GMSA) works with partners across the South West Healthcare services to ensure the successful delivery of NHS Englands national genomic strategy. Working in partnership, we work to ensure equity of access to appropriate genetic testing for patients and their families and to ensure the delivery of a patient centred, high-quality and innovation driven genomic medicine service. The role comes at an exciting time for the application of genomics in cancer care providing diagnostic, treatment, surveillance and risk-reduction opportunities for patients and their families, in addition to a growing research portfolio and the primary care wellbeing agenda. More detail about the role We welcome applications from experienced nurses working in cancer care to join our multi-disciplinary cancer operational team which includes the genomic laboratories, clinical genetics, cancer nurses and clinicians involved in genomics. We offer two 0.5 WTE posts to cover our SW GMSA geography, in collaboration with the Peninsula and SWAG cancer alliances. The two posts will work closely together supported by the Associate Director N&M SW GMSA (AND&M). The role will require engagement with nurses working in cancer care including Lead Cancer Nurses, SACT nurses, Cancer Nurse Specialists, Cancer Research Nurses and Primary Care Nurses offering screening and wellbeing information. This role will build upon previous SW GMSA work to support upskiling of the nursing community and further embed the knowledge and skills to enhance genomic patient care. For example, using an established competency framework to upskill according to the level of need, from signposting (novice), to counselling and consent discussions, to running mainstreaming counselling and consenting clinics (expert). In collaboration with the two Cancer Alliances in our region, the successful candidates will work across all tumour sites (solid and liquid) with an expectation to attend and present at meetings around the region. A key component of the role will be engagement with, and education of your peers. You will be supported by the SW GMSA cancer operational team and SW GMSA education lead to take part in Cancer Study events (on-line and face to face) as well as developing bespoke educational sessions that you will deliver.
