Service/ Department: Perioperative services – Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU)
Contract: Two positions available - Fixed term – 1 year – 0.8FTE + 0.4FTE
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.
About the Role:
The Perioperative Unit employs staff across six areas: Operating Theatres, Day of Surgery admissions (DOSA), Pre-Admission, Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU), Sterile Services and the Anaesthesia Unit.
We are currently able to offer Registered Nurses an opportunity to join us and work in DOSA.
Pre-op nursing care begins when the patient is scheduled for surgery until the time the patient is on the surgical table. In order for a patient to transition safely through surgery, the nurse is responsible for assessing the patient's overall risk and preparing the patient mentally and physically for the upcoming procedure. Postoperative care ensures the patient's pain is controlled as the nurse monitors the patient's physical recovery.
If you would like to be part of this patient's journey then we would love to hear from you! You will be working with an amazing team of clinical professionals who always strive to do their best for our patients and each other. We pride ourselves on our team diversity.
What are the benefits for you:
* Join a flexible, responsive and smart workforce.
* Professional supervision and mentoring to support career development and growth.
* Opportunity to expand your clinical knowledge and work within an acute care setting, while learning and working alongside experts in their field.
* Dedicated and protected departmental education once a month.
* Robust orientation period and support.
We’re looking for individuals who display:
* A current practising certificate with the Nursing Council of New Zealand, with evidence of meeting continuing competence requirements.
* Be working toward, or holding a current portfolio assessed via an approved Nursing Professional Development Recognition Programme (PDRP).
* At least two years of clinical nursing experience; experience in any of the advertised clinical areas would be beneficial.
* A commitment to teamwork with an ability to participate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
