You will be based at Peterborough City Hospital, however, cross site working at Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon will be required. Located in the western part of Cambridgeshire, the historic towns of Peterborough and Huntingdon have been transformed by town development schemes bringing improvements in housing, education, and employment opportunities. Both hospital sites are accessible by road or train within easy commute distance from London, Cambridge, Leicester or Birmingham. Along with the team of 46 Consultants, you will be responsible for the provision of Emergency Anaesthetic and Obstetric services and the supervision of trainees. We are collaborating with medical students from the University of Cambridge and the University of Leicester who are completing their Peri-Operative Medicine experience here. Main duties of the job The weekly sessional commitments are based on 10 PAs (8.5 DCC 1.5 SPA), and any additional PAs will be subject to negotiation. The predictable and unpredictable DCC work of this post is annualised and will consist of a combination of fixed (at least one day per week) and flexible clinical sessions (planned sessions 4-8 for Theatre/Obstetrics) to an agreed annualised total. You will take part in the General/Obstetric Consultant on-call rota. Each week will be finalised four weeks in advance and will incorporate an agreed fixed non-clinical day. The rest of the time will be spent on administration, continued development of Anaesthetic services, attendance at planned departmental meetings, teaching, audit and mandatory training. A typical week will consist of a fixed day and a mixture of surgical specialty sessions such as ENT, Upper GI, Maxillo-Facial Surgery, Colorectal or Gynaecology but, could also include Trauma or Emergency Anaesthesia. The Inpatient Trauma Service is currently based at Peterborough City as a single site for both patients from Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke hospitals. To accommodate the extra trauma capacity there are weekend Trauma lists on Saturday and Sunday as well as Bank Holidays and these are included in everyone's job plans.
