We are recruiting for a Steam biased Mechanical Plant Engineer to join a maintenance shift team on a large scale industrial facility in the Grimsby / Humberside area.
The position with involve the maintenance and upkeep of steam, turbine, pressure systems, water treatment plant, CHP and associated mechanical plant.
The role is a permanent position based on a 12 hour day shift pattern (shown below). Starting pay is circa 40k rising after training/AP to circa 46k.
Average weekly hours circa 38/hr per week (reduced with holiday allowance included in the shift rota)

Steam Mechanical Engineer Description:
• Co-operation with the Shift Operations Leader and other customers
• Maintain good working relationships with Customer representatives and any other relevant interested parties and to promote excellent working practices to ensure that all aspects of the service level agreements are delivered in accordance with the contract requirements.
• Ensure that Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality standards are met, promote continuous improvements and to ensure compliance with accreditations and customer procedures including control of work.
• Undertake, testing and diagnostics of plant equipment and systems in accordance with best practice to include steam, turbines, pressure systems, mechanical plant room, water treatment plant, combined heat and power systems (CHP) etc.
• Complete all relevant administrative functions correctly and efficiently using the appropriate methods including the use of relevant IT software systems and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ensure that the Operations Leader is kept informed of all aspects of safety performance, plant performance and customer’s circumstances that may impact upon the safe, efficient, reliable and cost-effective operation
• Understand the Lead Operator role in the site contingency plans for dealing with emergency situations.
• Following a satisfactory assessment assumes the Role of Authorised Person for Permits as delegated by the Companies Senior Authorised Person.
• Ensure that all work records are accurate and meet requirements of contract and policies/procedures and undertake regular audits to check compliance.
• To work with the Plant Manager to ensure continual development of the contract e.g. Continuous improvements, energy efficiency, projects etc.
• A good understanding of the Operational Permit and reporting requirements.
• Annual and review appraisals
• Performance management, personal development programmes, training and validation programmes
• Arranging and authorising overtime cover, annual leave and ensuring time records are accurately maintained.

Requirements:
• Health and Safety Qualification i.e. - NEBOSH Cert or IOSH Managing Safety.
• Competent in the use of IT systems and Microsoft packages.
• Ability to operate all plant and auxiliary equipment.
• Capable of undertaking risk assessments
• Capable of providing safe systems and safe areas of work
• Capable/knowledge of Synchronising alternators, switching HV circuits.
• Capable/knowledge of the safe operation of such the assets as; Gas Turbines, Steam Turbines, Gas Engines, Waste Heat recovery Boilers, and Package Boilers.
• Knowledge/experience of Water Treatment for Boilers and Cooling Towers, including water softening plants.
• Undertaking and recording basic water chemistry testing.
• Capable of managing the unloading of chemical tankers and transferring chemicals.
• Mechanical/practical aptitude
• Strong influencing and interpersonal skills with proven ability to quickly build relationships with new colleagues, visitors, and customers.
• Self-motivated; able to work without constant direction and guidance.
• Holds a relevant technical qualification to the role or can demonstrate a proven track record of performance from any previous employers
