Job overview
The post holder will provide specialist knowledge and skills in providing care for gynaecology oncology patients based in ward areas. They will provide a ward presence, attend clinics, and participate in MDTs. Provide clinical excellence, leadership, innovation, and facilitated learning. The post holder will have responsibility for leading and developing this specialty service to provide equitable care to patients presenting with all types of gynaecological cancer and act as a resource to carers, multi-disciplinary colleagues, and the primary health care team.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will manage a caseload/client group, providing highly specialist expert nursing advice, information, and support to patients with gynaecological cancer and their families at all stages of their disease. This includes ensuring a smooth transition of care from primary surgery through to radiotherapy/chemotherapy and into the community, to discharge or death, thereby establishing links between the acute and primary care group, supporting both patient and carers.
The post holder will liaise with services within South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust and with other key partners such as Macmillan Cancer Support, Northern Cancer Alliance, Clinical Commissioning Groups, Primary Care Trusts, Social Services, and Hospices to enable and ensure quality service provision for all patients under their care. They will provide assistance, support, and health promotion advice to other staff while improving clinical practice, enhancing service provision, and streamlining patient-focused care.
The post holder will be an active core member of the multi-disciplinary team and network with other professionals locally and nationally for the purpose of developing practice, research and audit, and development of standardized patient information, and clinical supervision.

Knowledge and skills
* Knowledge about the development of the specialist nurse role in a modern NHS
* Expert level of knowledge in the care of patients requiring oncology care.
* Knowledge of strategic issues which influence management of the care of patients diagnosed with gynaecological cancer at a local, regional and national level.
* Expert level of knowledge of gynaecology cancer management and care of those undergoing gynaecology cancer treatments
Qualifications
* NMC level 1 registration
* Degree/Diploma in Nursing
* Specialist qualification in cancer care/palliative care nursing or working towards.
* Teaching Qualification ENB 998 or C&G 730 or equivalent
* Advanced communications skills course or willing to undertake.
* Hold a record of continuous professional and academic development.
* Evidence of ability to work at level 7.
* Research qualification
* Independent non-medical prescribing or willing to work towards
* Recognised counselling course or certificate
* Masters’ degree or if working towards an expected completion date or willingness to study at advanced level/Masters.
* Physical assessment & disease management skills course (level 7/level 6) or willing to work towards.
EXPERIENCE
* Extensive post registration experience, with experience of working at a senior level.
* Experience in cancer/ palliative care
* Experience of working within a busy clinical environment and within multidisciplinary teams.
* Experience in providing care for patients with gynaecological cancer or other long-term conditions.
* Experience of developing protocols and guidelines
* Experience of working towards Quality Measures
