This role is based at Bathford Paper Mill, where paper has been made for over 200 years. This role is a 12 month Fixed Term Contract reporting to the Technical Manager within the Technical department.
Job Purpose:
This role is for a Process Engineer who has proven capability to singularly lead and deliver complex problem-solving activities and projects with agreed solutions within budget & on plan.
Provide practical hands on support to paper manufacturing by developing current process/product capability & applying structured technical solutions to our processes.
The jobholder will provide both coaching & practical support to others in the team as well as to all areas of paper manufacturing operations
Key Responsibilities:
Project Work
1. To propose, plan and execute safely complex Process/Product Improvement projects in agreed areas such as safety, quality, energy efficiency & fresh water reduction within agreed budget and timescales following a formal structured approach which may include elements of design.
2. This would be following a formal structured approach from inception which will include elements of design, of cost control, AM/PM linkage, process drawings, future proofing, change management & document control to customer handover. Thereafter ensuring a verification audit system exists per project to sustain benefits of the improvement(s)
3. Lead process/product improvement teams (or support as required) and actively promote team working and effective communications within projects.
4. Lead & advise new process & product validation activities and trials.
Functional Support
5. To provide Process Improvement support to all Mill operations to enable manufacturing to achieve the best quality product at the lowest cost. Expectation is that the job holder will be actively seeking and identifying abnormal conditions, and driving resolution with process owners.
6. Identify process capabilities and offer innovative solutions to improve security paper quality performance.
7. Actively encourage and coach employees in lean manufacturing techniquesi.e 9S, FMEA, CCAR, and Control Plans, quality and how data drives decisions. This may be process engineers or process owners/teams.
8. Work closely with other process improvement engineers and Technical advisers in providing specialist support and training for relevant personnel as required, for example in areas such as SMED best practice, wet end chemistry, new equipment installations.
9. Participate with Process owners or other stakeholders (e.g. product managers) to improve process Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE: Availability, performance and quality). To embed any processes into daily cell activities.
10. Flexibility is required at times as issues or projects may need support out of hours.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
12. Education to at least Degree within engineering, scientific or paper industry disciplines or relevent extensive experience in delivering continuous improvements .
13. Demonstrable track record in leading & implementing complex lean manufacturing change and/or continuous improvement techniques with associated benefits.
14. Lean manufacturing credentials to ideally Black belt level, or an experienced and heavily evidenced green belt, or equivalent problem solving and statistical analysis skills
15. Solid manufacturing/production background in a medium to large sized organisation, ideally within more than one industry, in a process improvement or manufacturing engineering position.
16. Proven ability to implement conceptual process improvements to provide installed manufacturing solutions.
17. Understanding and ability to promote a “customer/supplier” working philosophy.
18. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (including presentations and report writing skills )
19. Confident in Microsoft Windows programmes and evidence of other data analysis packages
