Paediatric Staff Nurse - Emergency Department

Main duties of the job
The successful post holder will be expected to work in a small team within the Emergency Department, having close links to the Paediatric Unit, Resuscitation Service, Safeguarding Teams and Medical Staffing.
As a Paediatric Staff Nurse, you will ensure that you work towards providing our children and young persons with a safe, effective and efficient service. You will be under the direct supervision of a band 7 Senior Sister and a team of experienced Clinical Sisters. You will require skills in the safe assessment of children, using an ABCDE approach, and be able to administer treatments and medications as prescribed.
In addition, you will be expected to assist senior staff in audits, help with CSW teaching sessions, and mentor students. You would need to keep up to date with research and new guidance and would be actively encouraged to bring new ideas to the department.

Job responsibilities
As a band 5 staff nurse in the Children's Emergency Department, you would receive a supernumerary period to enable a safe introduction to the team. We have a band 5 development pathway that will give you skills in the assessment of children and young persons, administration of medications, safeguarding supervision, and the commencement of the national ED competencies.
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team including doctors, health play specialists, and clinical support workers to ensure that all children have a positive experience, whatever their emergency.
As a band 5 nurse, you should be able to assess children, perform vital observations, and give treatment/medications as indicated.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* RN1/RN2/RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register
Knowledge
* An awareness of safeguarding and the ability to access/commence safeguarding procedures if required
* Have an understanding of mental health presentations in children and CAMHS
Experience
* Experience within emergency care, with a special interest in the care of children
* Have an understanding of mental health presentations in children and CAMHS
Skills
* A wide range of skills such as plastering, suturing, and basic wound care; however, while it is desirable for an applicant to have the skills, training is available
* As an emergency Paediatric staff nurse, the postholder should be able to fully assess children using an ABCDE approach and complete all basic observations
* To be able to take a full set of observations using the trust-approved PEWS charts
