Job overview
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with Specialist Interest in Revision Knee Arthroplasty. We are seeking consultants with enthusiasm, commitment, and drive to work closely with colleagues throughout the organisation and within the community to help lead the organisation.
This post is an important part of our ongoing development of Trauma and Orthopedic services at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust and is part of an expansion to meet the rising demand and complexity of orthopedic trauma and knee surgery in our area.
This is an excellent opportunity to join the Trauma and Orthopedic department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The successful applicant will join a service that prides itself in effective leadership, innovative thinking, and excellent teamwork.
Main duties of the job
Applicants should possess expertise in general orthopedic trauma and all aspects of knee surgery. A specific interest in cartilage regeneration, periarticular osteotomy, multi-ligament knee reconstruction and patella-femoral joint surgery is desirable. The successful applicant would be expected to assist with the development of day case knee arthroplasty surgery and robotic surgery.
It is expected that the successful candidate will have a job plan comprising both fixed clinical and flexible theatre sessions agreed in advance. The successful candidate would be expected to work with the existing Consultants to provide a high-quality service at the Trust.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
• Participation in the provision of general orthopaedic trauma care
• All aspects of Knee Surgery and particularly revision arthroplasty surgery
• Work collaboratively with the existing Consultants to lead and develop the service
• Maintenance of high quality patient centred care
• Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary service
• Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity
• Active participation in departmental research
Person specification
Qualifications / Training
* Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
* FRCS Tr&Orth or qualification of an equivalent level
* Higher Trauma and Orthopaedic (or equivalent) training
* Fellowship training in Knee Arthroplasty Surgery and Revision Knee Surgery
* Fellowship training in Soft Tissue Knee Surgery and Knee Periarticular Osteotomy Surgery
* Postgraduate degree (or equivalent) related to Orthopaedics (eg Masters / MD / MRes / PhD etc)
Skills
* Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.
* Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation
Previous Experience
* Broad range of experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics
* Proficient in management and treatment of complex peri-prosthetic trauma
* Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
* Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
* Evidence of leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
* Published papers and original work in peer reviewed journals
* Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of audit, evidence-based practice and clinical quality improvement initiatives
* Demonstrable experience and active participation in research and development
* Experience of Orthopaedic Trauma in a UK Major Trauma Centre
