HyKit is at the forefront of the hydrogen power revolution. Our mission is to design and manufacture modular agile infrastructure to store, transport and dispense green hydrogen at point of use.
We bring significant expertise in Hydrogen systems and are building a dedicated team to deliver key infrastructure needed to support Hydrogen powered equipment.
Our first product will be released under a joint venture with JCB, mobile hydrogen refuellers to support JCB’s green product transition. HyKit will manufacture these products at our new facility in Oxfordshire.
Location
HyKit has a dedicated premises in Bicester, where it is developing its products and preparing for series manufacture.
Role: Manufacturing Manager
Reporting Line
The Manufacturing Manager will report to the Head of Operations.
Department Overview
The Manufacturing function within HyKit is responsible for ensuring the on-time, on-cost and on-specification delivery of products. It is part of the wider Operations function, which includes Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Facilities, Operational Support and Finance.
The Role
The Manufacturing Manager role will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the HyKit factory. They will deliver on-time, on-spec and on-cost products in line with the production plan. They will develop the manufacturing strategy with the senior leadership team and will be responsible for its successful deployment and for driving the associated key performance indicators.
The Manufacturing Manager will have direct managerial responsibility for production planning, assembly technicians and the product quality team. They will ensure that the factory operates efficiently to build high quality, right-first-time products in line with the production plan and order book. They will work with the engineering team to provide feedback to enable optimised design for manufacture and assembly, and to refine the assembly processes for series manufacturing of refueller products.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing operations
1. Planning and execution of refueller product build and test.
2. Staffing & rota assignment to meet production plans and ensure on-time delivery.
3. Drive continuous improvement in both the production processes and through product feedback to the engineering team.
Leadership
1. Recruit, lead and motivate the manufacturing team.
2. Coach, mentor and develop individuals to create a high performing team.
3. Set department objectives and monitor ongoing performance.
4. Ensure Health and Safety is a priority and that policies are followed.
Facility
1. Ensure manufacturing facilities are maintained to a high standard. Work with the Facilities Manager to resolve any issues.
2. Ensure that all equipment and facilities are appropriately inspected and certified in line with legal requirements (e.g. LOLER, LEV, etc).
Safety
1. HyKit expects all employees to work together and create a safe working environment, however the Production Manager has specific additional responsibilities:
2. Facility safety – direct responsibility for manufacturing team adherence to company policies regarding safety, fire and first aid.
3. Risk assessment – ensure that all processes are risk assessed and that agreed mitigations for the manufacturing and test areas are implemented and adhered to.

Person Specification
Education, Qualifications and Experience
Required
1. Educated to degree level (preferably Masters) in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent NVQ Level 7 qualification.
2. Previous experience of leading high-performing manufacturing teams, to deliver high-technology, low volume, complex products.
3. Excellent leadership, time management and communication skills.
4. Experience of using typical manufacturing IT systems such as ERP / MRP.
5. Strong understanding of Health and Safety within manufacturing environments.
6. Experience of leading and implementing continuous improvement projects and initiatives.
Preferred
1. Lean six sigma Green or Black belt.
2. Experience working in a low volume high complexity manufacturing environment.
3. Experience working with design and development engineers in the early stages of a project.
4. Understanding of quality management and inspection within a manufacturing environment.
5. Experience working with high pressure gases and ATEX requirements.

3. Excellent computer skills including high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Project or (or other equivalent planning tools).

This role will be based at our Bicester HQ but may require occasional visits to joint-venture sites and supplier locations.
