Job summary
-Working with the interdisciplinary team to provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy (group and individual). Assessments and treatments should be consistent with evidence-based psychological approaches including CBT, third wave and other psychological approaches. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is the predominant therapeutic approach within our services.-Effectively engage patients who often present with psychological needs, issues of not being believed, anger or mistrust. The post holder will require excellent communication and relationship building skills to provide and receive complex, sensitive and potentially contentious information; and respond to significant barriers to acceptance; hostile, antagonistic or highly emotive situations.-Provide specialist psychological intervention to patients under the care of the pain service with a view to; facilitating acceptance of/adjustment to their condition; facilitating psychological flexibility to live well with pan; reducing patient distress, anxiety and depression; to optimise self-management and live well with pain and to improve health related quality of life.
Main duties of the job
About the role This is an exciting opportunity to be a psychological therapist within an interdisciplinary pain team. You will provide specialist psychological assessments, formulations, and interventions as part of an interdisciplinary pain team, to individuals, groups and via ehealth. You may also have the opportunity to supervise other members of the team. You will use your knowledge, experience, and brilliant skills to provide advice and consultation on psychological aspects of pain management to other health professionals and to advance students and colleagues knowledge and practice of psychological theories and principles. You will proactively develop and promote a positive and dynamic image and culture and will be key in fostering productive relationships with key stakeholders. You will be registered with BABCP as a CBT Therapist and will have experience of working within a physical health setting delivering individual and group interventions. You will preferably have good knowledge of the current evidence base in relation to psychological approaches to pain management.
