An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, dynamic and forward-thinking Occupational Therapist with excellent clinical skills to join our Integrated Community Stroke and Neuro Rehabilitation team.
You will manage a complex caseload including patients with Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, Motor Neurone Disease, and Traumatic Brain Injury. The job requires that you work collaboratively as part of a multi-professional team with other AHP, nursing, and psychology colleagues to assess and deliver rehabilitation in the most appropriate environment for patients.
You will need to be able to demonstrate specialist knowledge relevant to the post and provide evidence of postgraduate training and an understanding of the appropriate national guidelines. You will have an opportunity to rotate between the neuro-rehabilitation service and the integrated stroke rehabilitation service.
You will need highly effective communication skills to manage frequent contact with patients or carers who are either under stress or distressed. You will need to liaise with colleagues in acute services, GPs, specialist nurses, and colleagues in social services to ensure seamless patient care. You must be able to manage your own time effectively and be competent to line manage and supervise junior staff, rehabilitation assistants, and students.
Basic IT skills are also required. A full UK driving license and access to a car are essential.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Assess and treat own caseload of patients in a variety of settings including patients' homes and clinics who need specialist neurological intervention.
2. Act as an autonomous practitioner and source of expertise in these areas for junior staff, rehabilitation assistants, colleagues in the integrated community rehab services, and other health and social care professionals in acute and community settings.
3. Referral management and triage.
4. Undertake training including audit and evaluation in conjunction with the GMNISDN.
5. Contribute to team in-service training and identify personal training needs through supervision and appraisal.
6. Lead the training and supervision of student occupational therapists and rehabilitation assistants.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Occupational therapy degree or equivalent
* Registered with HCPC
* MSc in Occupational therapy
* Member of specialist interest group
Training and Experience
* Evidence of relevant training specific to specialism.
* Relevant specialist clinical knowledge.
Knowledge and Skills
* Evidence of managing a stroke or neuro-rehabilitation caseload including complex patient presentations.
* Evidence of effective time management and communication skills.
* Evidence of mentoring more junior therapists, non-qualified staff, or students.
* Evidence of postgraduate training in assessment and treatment of stroke or neurological impairments.
* Experience of working in a stroke or neurorehabilitation MDT.
* Evidence of specialist stroke and neuro-rehabilitation management skills e.g. spasticity management.
* Completed a clinical educator's course.
* Completed an introductory Bobath course or equivalent.
* Evidence of leadership skills.
* Previous experience of working in a community setting.
Attributes
* Able to travel across the city of Manchester to complete a daily caseload of visits.
