Fire Engineer Apprenticeship, UK OFR Consultants is pleased to offer Fire Engineer Apprenticeship opportunities in our dynamic fire engineering teams across Manchester, London, and Bath starting in September 2025. You will be provided with a fantastic practical immersion into fire engineering and the unique opportunity to work with leading technical experts in this field, whilst learning the skills critical to becoming a trusted consultant to clients. About you: Individuals must demonstrate ability to work on their own initiative but be able to work as part of team. Qualifications BCC at A2 including Mathematics OR Science subject (Physics, Chemistry, Environmental Science), Biology not accepted. Relevant National Diploma grades DMM. IB 24 Points including Maths or Science at Grade 5. In addition, applicants will be required to have Maths and English GCSE at Grade C/4 or equivalent. Applicants will be required to have a minimum level of proficiency in English Language equivalent to IELTS grade 6 with no subscore lower than 5.5. In addition, you will also be able to demonstrate skills and knowledge in the following: Ability to deliver on time, will clearly communicate where tasks cannot be completed on time or to a high quality. Exceptional organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks and multitask. Attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality of work. Individuals must have good interpersonal skills and be confident communicating with a variety of mediums i.e. e-mail, phone, video conferencing and face to face, ensuring they have full understanding of the task required of them. Knowledge the Microsoft Office suite and willingness to learn technical software (such as FDS, Brisk, Simulex, OBI etc.) as required. Be enthusiastic, proactive, hardworking and with a can-do attitude. Don’t be afraid to ask questions (or to provide a response to others). The role is that of a learning role, where alongside your apprentice (Level 6) degree, you will also learn by way of hands-on experience by working on live fire engineering projects, and putting into practice the lessons you learn during your time at university. Some key areas that you will perform are: Developing your understanding of fire engineering and the role of the fire engineer on projects ranging from inception through to practical completion and into the buildings’ operational life. Developing your knowledge whilst working as part of a team within OFR to both understand and apply fire safety legislation and design guidance within the UK as a part of project delivery (for both our Design and Implementation Teams). Developing a range of skills to enable you to carry out fire engineering calculations including smoke modelling, evacuation analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) modelling. Enhance your knowledge to be able to identify the appropriate fixed fire protection systems to support fire engineering design solutions i.e. automatic fire detection, suppression systems, etc. Developing your communication and people skillset. This will actively support and enhance your ability to communicate with clients and internally across a range of skills, abilities and technical knowledge. Developing an ability to influence and negotiate (this will follow on from above communication skillsets). Developing a practical knowledge of the construction, consultancy and property industry, including relative United Kingdom standards, guidelines and/or acceptable solutions. Developing your knowledge of technical software (such as FDS, Brisk, Simulex etc.), and the Microsoft Office suite. What Training Is Provided and What Does the Apprentice Attain at The End You will attend University (University of Central Lancashire [UCLAN]) as prescribed by the institution and study a Level 6 BEng (Hons) Fire Safety Engineer Apprenticeship degree (accredited by the Engineering Council) and is inclusive of class/lecture attendance, completing assignments and completion of relevant work based tasks to obtain the relevant experience. You will have the full support of your wider team, as well as a Line Manager, Mentor and Buddy. You may be required to travel for university, work assignments and events, for which OFR will provide you with travel and accommodation costs where needed. Upon completion, should OFR offer you a permanent role, you can expect to take a more senior role in ongoing and future projects as well as possibly training/mentoring future team members, with an opportunity to further your professional development through further courses, Chartership, events and company provided training.
