BAND 6 Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse (PDSN)
24.0 Hours per week. Part Time Substantive Post.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join our busy, progressive and supportive Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse Team.
The Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC) provides a local service for children and young people from the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire area. In addition, we take referrals for specialist care for families from across the Southwest and nationally.
The Paediatric Diabetes Nursing team currently care for over 500 children in the region, utilising various ways of managing diabetes, including injections, hybrid closed loop systems and continuous glucose monitors.
The post is largely based at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, but with a remit of work within the community, including home and school visits as well as our various clinic settings across Bristol and Weston.
Working in a demanding environment, the successful applicant will be required to demonstrate:
1. A sound knowledge of paediatric diabetes; aetiology and treatment.
2. The ability to work both autonomously and as a member of the nursing team/MDT.
3. Demonstrate self-direction and a willingness to develop their skills.
4. Excellent organisational, prioritisation and problem-solving skills.
5. The ability to support and teach staff, families and other professionals.
6. The ability to work flexibly and manage change in a positive and effective way.
7. Demonstrate resilience with a fast paced and unpredictable workload.
This position will be supported by an allocated band 7 mentor, the Lead Diabetes nurse and the wider diabetes team.
