Job overview
Applications are invited to apply for a Locum Consultant in Obstetrics based at the Queen's Hospital, Burton on Trent site for a 6 month Fixed Term contract to cover absence. 10 PA's.
This post will be based at Queen's Hospital, but we expect flexibility for you to be able to work across all our sites should the need arise.
Main duties of the job
1. Provision with consultant colleagues of a service to Staffordshire, Derbyshire & surrounding areas with responsibility for diagnosis & treatment of patients at the hospitals & clinics at which you have duties, this may include clinics in community facilities.
2. Responsible for the continuing care and treatment of patients in your charge and personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in your job plan, allowing for all proper delegation to & training of your staff.
3. Provision of an out-of-hours service with consultant colleagues including on-call rota commitments.
4. Whole time appointment with a work commitment of 10 PA’s per week, including a 1:10 on-call rota for Obstetrics.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
In addition to any specialist interests all consultants will be involved in providing a general clinical service to the Trust.
1. Provision with consultant colleagues of a service to Staffordshire, Derbyshire & surrounding areas with responsibility for diagnosis & treatment of patients at the hospitals & clinics at which you have duties, this may include clinics in community facilities.
2. Responsible for the continuing care & treatment of patients in your charge & personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in your job plan, allowing for all proper delegation to & training of your staff.
3. Provision of an out-of-hours service with consultant colleagues including on-call rota commitments.
4. Active participation in undergraduate & post graduate education, including training sessions for Foundation Years, Specialty Registrars and medical students.
5. Provision of cover for your consultant colleagues during reasonable periods of leave including care of patients & supervision of doctors in training.
6. Responsible for the professional supervision, training & management of junior medical staff, carrying out teaching, examination & accreditation duties as required & contributing to postgraduate & CPD activity locally & nationally as appropriate.
7. Participate in clinical audit under local arrangements.
8. Commitment to entering patients into MRC trials where appropriate.
9. Commitment to taking part in annual appraisal process which will be undertaken with the Assistant Clinical Director for Obstetrics.
10. Responsible for compliance with personal continuing professional development requirements with the support of the Trust.
11. Responsible for maintaining awareness of & acting in accordance with professional guidelines.
12. Exceptional requirements to undertake additional duties for limited periods within geographical area specified above or undertake duties at other hospitals in the event of a major disaster or incident.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Possession of relevant Postgraduate Qualification or equivalent.
* ATSM in Advance Labour ward practice.
* Full GMC registration with a license to practice at time of application.
* Additional higher medical / scientific degree relevant to the specialty.
* Within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry by date of appointment committee.
Management & Administrative Experience
* Understanding of clinical risk within Obstetrics.
* Attended a management course for consultants.
Teaching Experience
* Experience of & commitment to teaching undergraduates & postgraduates.
* Experience of supervising F1, F2, ST trainees.
* Specific teaching qualification.
* Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to under-graduates.
* Attended a recognised teaching training course.
Audit/Research Experience
* Experience of & commitment to clinical audit.
Communication
* Experience of formal presentations.
