C.I. Engineer, ARN- Infra Delivery Techs
The CI (Cable Infrastructure) team was originally formed in August 2012. After a re-org in 2018, CI joined the ever-growing Infrastructure Delivery group and currently manages the cable installations for AWS Data Centres. The team contributes and has input into cable plan design, plus is responsible for cable installations for all room builds, infills, reworks, and all network scaling cabling projects in clusters. We aim to continue innovating to reduce build time, have real-time data available for our customers, maintain quality, reduce cost, increase flexibility, and maintain resiliency and availability of our Data Centers.
Key Job Responsibilities
1. Installation of cabling infrastructure in a data center environment
2. Complete understanding of industry cable test procedures and equipment for a variety of different cabling systems (Copper/Fiber test equipment, OTDR, Network analyzer, VFL, etc.)
3. Report current status via ticketing system, status reports, and email
4. Manage multiple concurrent interdisciplinary projects and ability to work in a team
5. Exhibit quality workmanship and maintain space cleanliness
6. Inventory, track, and manage project-related materials throughout the project lifecycle
7. Follow all production, safety, and quality standards, including industry code and best practices
8. Provide daily feedback on project progress to Project Manager / Foreman
9. Must be self-motivated, positive in approach, and professional; help create, develop, and implement project process improvements
10. Must be able to travel within the cluster territory and/or regional territory as needed
11. Work in noisy areas with hotter and colder temperatures than standard office conditions
12. Occasional work in tight and/or narrow spaces, such as under raised floors
13. Manage, check, and coordinate all materials to be delivered to the site daily
14. Physical audit of cable basket capacity throughout the data centers
15. Scaling forecast heatmap comparison to current capacity to help identify potential lockers
16. Work with CPI to have remediation works completed
17. Complete a QA survey on completion
18. QA audits of New DC builds from room 1 to all subsequent rooms
19. Identify and report on issues and submit a proposed remediation plan
20. Work with Construction Manager and cabling vendors to ensure the AWS standards and guidelines are followed
21. Work with PIC and ID teams on scaling projects covering cable pathways, routes, and installation best practices
22. Initiate regular training sessions for AWS staff as well as cabling vendors and contractors
23. Work on process improvements and new initiatives, submit one-pager for review and submit an approval process to implement
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
1. Comprehension of systems and network platform, infrastructure cable, and relevant standards, and the requirements for physical layer inter-connectivity
2. Sound computer skills in MS Office suite
3. Able to interpret customer requirements into specifications and implement those specifications to the system design and installation
4. Must have advanced technical skills and solid working knowledge of cabling plant installation, materials, and quality
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Familiarity with enterprise data centers and white space
2. Able to manage project engineering to determine the scope of work relative to the design intent of the customer needs
