An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated & influential professional leader to join our organisation as an inspirational Deputy Chief Nurse. This role provides an excellent opportunity for professionals who would be interested in developing their career towards a Chief Nurse role. Although the desire is to make a permanent appointment into the role, a fixed term or secondment would also be considered.
You will support the Chief Nurse by providing strategic and operational leadership & direction. This key role is pivotal in the development & delivery of our nursing services locally & regionally. You will be essential in shaping the development of these services, working with partners in North Essex & East Suffolk, both in the community & in the hospital settings. You will be mainly based at our Colchester site but responsibility will also be for other sites within the North East Essex portfolio.
As the Deputy Chief Nurse, you will have the freedom to act and make decisions on behalf of the Chief Nurse, you will need to have a proven track record of considering various factors such as safety, quality, and regulatory issues whilst using your judgment to make informed decisions. You will also be required to influence both within the organisation and externally to create and drive opportunities for continuous improvement.

The Deputy Chief Nurse is the formal designated deputy acting for the Chief Nurse and will attend, contribute and present at senior level meetings including Trust Committees and the Board of Directors within the Trust and ensure the Chief Nurse’s Office interests are represented in relation to decision-making.
You will be accountable for the delivery of a kind, caring and compassionate nursing and support services. You will actively role model compassionate leadership, to shape and focus the culture in the nursing community.
On behalf of the DIPC, you will ensure policies are in place and complied with to achieve the best outcomes for patients.
Represent and negotiate on behalf of the Chief Nurse and the Trust in external meetings with a focus on supporting development in nursing clinical practice in line with the local and national nursing agenda which includes: Quality, Patient Safety and Experience, Safeguarding and vulnerable people, Infection Prevention and Control, Workforce and Education.
Line management of corporate nursing team (within portfolio) ensuring the implementation of robust systems and processes that support continuous improvement in the quality of the service provided to patients and their families and visitors, who may be affected by the work of the Trust.
Lead on the strategic implementation for regulatory and statutory compliance areas within the nursing community.
Participate in Gold on Call Rota.
