The role
As a Fire Engineer at Capital, you will play a crucial role in ensuring fire safety across a range of buildings and projects. Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you will support fire risk assessments, fire strategy development, compliance reviews, and cladding remediation in line with UK fire safety regulations. You will also work closely with our in-house investigations team, ensuring robust fire safety solutions are based on comprehensive site data and testing.
This is an opportunity to apply your technical expertise in a fast-growing area of consultancy, contributing to critical safety projects while gaining exposure to a diverse portfolio of clients and building types.
Life as a Fire Engineer at Capital:
* As a Fire Engineer at Capital, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive Fire Risk Assessments (FRA) across all categories, ensuring buildings comply with statutory requirements such as the Fire Safety Order (FSO), Building Safety Act 2022 (BSA22), and Fire Safety Act 2022 (FSA22). You will design and oversee intrusive investigation programmes to assess compartmentation and material build-ups, developing opening schedules that allow investigation teams to examine fire resistance integrity in external envelopes and internal compartmentation lines.
* A key part of your role will be interpreting the findings of intrusive investigations, carrying out Fire Risk Assessments of External Walls (FRAEW) in line with PAS 9980, and issuing EWS1 forms where required. You will also play a central role in Building Safety Case development, producing Fire Strategies and Fire Safety Plans for existing buildings while ensuring effective evacuation strategies and emergency procedures are in place.
* To support regulatory compliance, you will peer review designs and installations, ensuring alignment with relevant fire safety codes and standards, including Approved Document B and BS 9991. Working closely with architects, engineers, and contractors, you will integrate fire safety measures into new and existing building designs, advising on fire protection systems such as sprinklers, smoke detectors, fire alarms, and compartmentation solutions.
* Your responsibilities will extend to on-site inspections and fire risk surveys, where you will assess compartmentation, evacuation procedures, and overall fire safety measures, providing practical, effective mitigation strategies. You will act as a key liaison for clients and stakeholders, ensuring fire safety solutions align with project requirements and regulatory expectations. Additionally, you will leverage modern software and digital tools to assess fire risks, smoke ventilation, and evacuation modelling, ensuring innovative and data-driven fire engineering solutions.
