We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated Dietitian within our Diabetes dietetic service at UHCW.
About you:
The successful candidate will have solid clinical skills alongside experience of service development in Diabetes. You will work alongside the current operational lead for Diabetes and be part of our wider community and acute Diabetes MDT.
You will be supported in your personal development by a strong Dietetic Management Team, with an emphasis on training at UHCW. You will have access to bespoke leadership and change management training, plus opportunities to attend relevant external courses funded by the department.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for someone focused on delivering the best care to our patients and creating the best experiences and opportunities for our staff. Previous acute and community diabetes experience within the NHS is essential to this role.
About the role:
1. To carry out dietetic assessments appropriate to role and experience, provide nutritional diagnosis, and create a dietetic treatment plan for patients/clients.
2. To hold responsibility for own patient caseload, including patients with complex presentations.
3. Maintain clinical records in line with local/Trust documentation guidelines.
4. Liaise with dietetic colleagues and other members of the multidisciplinary team as necessary (e.g., Medical, nursing, catering, and other health care professionals).
5. Undertake leadership and line management duties as required for the post.
6. Work within National and Trust policies/guidelines; and HCPC and BDA standards and codes of conduct.
7. Have an in-depth understanding of national and local standards and monitor own practice against these.
8. Participate in bank holiday working and work flexible hours to meet patient needs if required.

Job responsibilities
Clinical
* Work autonomously to provide specialist dietetic advice to patients, their carers, and staff within agreed protocols and guidelines.
* Carry out nutritional assessments to determine nutritional problems.
* Develop treatment plans, including calculation of nutritional requirements and discharge planning.
* Prescribe dietary treatment and ACBS products for conditions with limited professional/clinical guidelines.
* Provide specialist dietetic advice, treatment, and dietary counselling to patients in various clinic locations.
* Communicate nutrition and dietetic information understandably to staff, clients, and carers.
* Liaise with catering, nursing, and dietetic staff to ensure satisfactory meal service for individual patients.
* Attend and participate in multidisciplinary meetings.
* Participate in health promotion activities of the department.
* Work flexible hours to meet the needs of patients and the service.
* Cover the work of colleagues and deputise for senior colleagues during periods of absence or peak workloads.
Management
* Participate in forward planning and development of the dietetic department.
* Lead and contribute to the development and updating of evidence-based clinical guidelines, policies, and procedures.
* Propose changes to working practices based on current evidence and best practice.
* Monitor stock levels of resources and ensure cost-effective use within the team.
* Plan and prioritise own workload and evaluate practice.
* Actively participate in the forward planning of the department.
Training and education
* Plan and organise training and clinical supervision of student dietitians.
* Mentor junior members of staff and student dietitians.
* Initiate and lead training on nutritional topics for healthcare staff.
* Participate in departmental Clinical Governance programme.
* Develop evaluation criteria and audit clinical practice within the designated specialty.
Professional
* Keep up to date with current developments in dietetics and participate in continuous professional development activities.
* Participate in departmental clinical supervision group for regular evaluation of practice.
* Ensure all Trust-wide and departmental standards and clinical guidelines are maintained.
* Participate in personal reviews and work to achieve agreed objectives.
* Document patient activity data in accordance with Trust and professional standards.
* Work as an autonomous practitioner within the BDA Code of professional conduct and HCPC Standards.
