We are looking for a highly skilled, experienced, motivated and enthusiastic staff member to work as part of Cancer services with Macmillan Cancer Support in a fixed term Cancer Support Worker (CSW) role as a band 4 for The Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Pod based on the ground floor in Barnsley Hospital.
This post holder will work patient/people facing, and will provide personalised care needs for the patients, visitors and relatives who are supported by the CNS teams. The CSW will liaise with additional services to manage the patients' needs, signposting to support any additional factors around holistic care needs in NON clinical requests such as wellbeing, finances, social factors and emotional care.
You will be linking in with the Trust Lead Cancer Nurse, Macmillan Cancer Health and Wellbeing Facilitator, The Well for Wellbeing, existing Macmillan CSWs, the Macmillan Personalised Care Facilitator and the Trust volunteers (who help support the running of the POD on a daily basis).
We are looking for a full-time worker to support the Macmillan Information and Support Pod but would consider job share for the right people and if the required number of applicants apply. Secondment opportunities are welcome with Line Managers support.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an individual with experience and knowledge around cancer needs and who can demonstrate career experience at Band 3/4; from a background which reflects high levels of practice around the cancer remit, with some degree of knowledge and/or skills working with patients.
Whilst being an essential team player to the cancer services management team, clinical cancer nursing teams, and cancer services, you will be required to be self-motivated and able to prioritise and promote the service needs. As well as working autonomously and coordinating care with others. We require someone with vision and enthusiasm - a person who wants to improve patient cancer care and patient experience.
Over the working week the post holder will be based mainly in the POD and will ensure that patients have a point of contact to come for information and support. They will work closely but remotely with the CNS teams to ensure that patients are referred on to additional services as needed. The post holder will help write the rota for the POD from the additional cohort of CSWs when they are on annual leave, to ensure that the service runs in their absence. The POD is often the face of Macmillan and we require someone who has excellent communication skills and who can comfortably speak with visitors, assessing non-clinical concerns quickly, and finding solutions before documenting cases within the cancer system.
