Buckingham Futures is recruiting for a Part-Time HMO Licensing & Empty Property Enforcement Officer on behalf of our client in the East Midlands. This role focuses on improving housing standards in the private sector and ensuring compliance with HMO regulations.
* Hours: 24 hours per week (Hybrid – 1 day on-site, 2 days from home)
* Contract: Initial 13 weeks
* Start Date: ASAP
* Requirements: HHSRS certification and access to a car are essential
Key Responsibilities:
* Inspect HMOs and private rented properties to ensure compliance with housing standards
* Investigate complaints related to poor housing conditions and disrepair
* Advise landlords, tenants, and property owners on necessary improvements
* Issue enforcement notices where required and support legal proceedings
* Contribute to the council’s housing objectives, including bringing empty properties back into use
* Promote energy efficiency initiatives and affordable warmth solutions
Ideal Candidate:
* Experience in private sector housing enforcement
* Knowledge of HMO licensing and the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS)
* Strong communication and problem-solving skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
