The role:
The support services teams are essential in enabling children and young adults to achieve their full potential.
As our Cook, your role will be to provide high-quality food using fresh ingredients. You will be expected to adopt a dynamic approach, continually striving to improve catering with new initiatives and menu ideas.
Key Duties
1. Prepare, cook, and present home-cooked food from scratch using fresh ingredients where possible.
2. Ensure the smooth running of the kitchen.
3. Carry out risk assessments for kitchen tasks.
4. Supervise and line manage the Kitchen Assistants.
5. Prepare, cook, and present specialist dietary and allergen meals as required.
6. Liaise with suppliers and build good relationships.
7. Undertake appropriate portion control.
8. Monitor stock and quality control, ensuring the school remains within budget.
9. Plan menus and meet stakeholders’ needs, including students and parents, providing nutritionally balanced food within budget.

Skills and Qualifications
* Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards for the catering environment.
* Understanding of learning disabilities and/or special needs as they impact support services, including management of individual needs (health, social, and challenging behaviours).
* Knowledge of health and safety legislation.
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with internal and external stakeholders.
* Experience with special diets and allergens.
* Highly organized.
* A passion for creating healthy, home-cooked foods with experience using a wide range of ingredients.
