Job summary
Accountable to Senior Matron and Head of Nursing
To participate as a member of the nursing team in the care of patients within the outpatients dermatology department. The post holder will be required to work in all clinics to ensure correct preparation and nursing support is provided. Good communication skills are essential to work with the full range of professionals, patients, and carers.
Main duties of the job
The Dermatology Department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site is a busy, cohesive unit, offering a comprehensive Dermatology service to the local community. The disease spectrum is wide and interesting, in part related to the diverse ethnic background of the local population. The unit offers a full range of outpatient and day care facilities for adults with dermatological problems. The service aims to offer a one-stop shop service and is continually looking at new ways of delivering care.
The post holder will be a clinically credible practitioner who can provide effective patient care in a range of dermatology clinical settings, having regard for relevant policies and the evidence base nursing.
The post holder will provide support and mentorship for students and junior nurses.

Job responsibilities
* To participate in the running and organisation of the Dermatology outpatient clinics
* To support the medical and senior nursing staff within the clinic.
* To portray a professional attitude and demonstrate effective communication skills at all times.
* To facilitate and provide high quality care to patients and their carers, prompting a positive patient experience.
* To manage delegated responsibilities.
* To communicate effectively with the multi-disciplinary team.
* Inform patients of any potential procedures that may take place prior to the consultation.
* Be aware of current advances in clinical care and facilitate team members in implementing evidence-based practice.
* Provide reassurance and support to patients during procedures.
* Educate and offer opportunities for patients to ask health-related questions and provide additional supportive information.
* Assist patients in transferring on/off the couch as per manual handling safe systems of work.
* Ensure patients are fully informed prior to leaving the clinic, offering verbal or written information regarding further investigations and treatments.
* Ensure safe transportation of patients to other departments in line with manual handling policies.
* Ensure essential equipment and medical supplies are available, assembled correctly, and in good working order.
* Assist/chaperone medical practitioners during procedures.
* Undertake testing of routine samples, ensuring correct labelling and storage, and record findings in patients' medical notes.
* Routinely measure patients' blood pressure, height, weight, and BMI.
* Dispose of contaminated equipment as per infection control policies.
* Accurately document clinical information and report findings to the senior nurse.
* Assist doctors and clinical nurse specialists with minor procedures.
* Participate in the development and use of protocols and standards for nursing care.
* Participate in evaluation, audit, and research, and incorporate findings into practice.
