We are looking for an Apprentice Audiologist to join our enthusiastic Audiology team based at the Royal Derby Hospital.
As an Audiology Apprentice, you will benefit from a 4 year fully funded and supported Level 6 Healthcare Science Apprenticeship in Audiology at Aston University and earn a competitive apprenticeship salary, whilst being part of a team and gaining transferable knowledge and skills. You will study part-time and will qualify with a BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science (Audiology) degree on completion, plus an Apprenticeship Certificate.
We are offering to pay a salary and fund your learning as you work towards gaining a degree in Audiology with Aston University. Your learning will include a blend of theory and practice and will involve both university and self-directed learning. Once successfully qualified, you will be eligible for an Audiologist (band 5) role at the Royal Derby Hospital.
The post holder will be required to work in a wide range of clinical settings, including the various hospitals run by the trust.
Although an apprentice role, this vacancy is open to everyone regardless of age and ideal for anyone looking for a career within Audiology. Over a 4-year period, you will be fully funded to complete your apprenticeship around your working role and will be allocated time to undertake the academic study required.
Year 1 - 65% of Top Band 5
Year 2 - 70% of Top Band 5
Year 3 - 75% of Top Band 5
Year 4 - 80% of Top Band 5
Main duties of the job
Throughout the apprenticeship programme, the post holder will be supported to work towards independent practice within the Audiology team. Main duties will include:
* To provide Audiology cover to Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Outpatients Department clinics including masked air and bone condition audiometry and tympanometry. To discuss results with patients and their family/carer.
* To undertake Stage A daily calibration checks and maintain records for Audiological equipment.
* Routine aspects of all adult hearing aid and rehabilitation services within the department, including clinics at community sites and domiciliary visiting.
* Interpretation of results by collating all available information to decide on appropriate management.
* Ability to take accurate ear impressions on adult patients, according to the British Society of Audiology recommended procedures.
* Verifying hearing aid prescriptions using probe tube microphone measurements.
* Transporting expensive equipment, stock (to include hearing aids and consumables) to community hospitals or outreach clinics as required.
* To keep the patient management system (Auditbase) up to date so that patients' progress is monitored, rehabilitation schedules are adhered to, and stock is appropriately managed.
Job responsibilities
Upon completion of the apprenticeship:
* Undertaking diagnostic audiology assessments for Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) patients.
* Routine aspects of all work within the department, including clinics at community sites.
* Participating in the provision of the routine adult hearing aid assessment, rehabilitation and aftercare service.
* Maintains records in relation to audiological activities carried out.
* Explain results to patients and where appropriate the importance of ongoing surveillance.
* Ensure a person-centred approach to all patient interactions.

* 3 A-Levels at ABB including 1 Science A-Level (Biology or Physics), or BTEC equivalent at D* D* D*
