Clinical duties Primary Health Care Assistant role involves venepuncture, safe blood sampling where appropriate, in line with national guidelines and protocol. Primary Health Care Assistant Role acts as an autonomous Health Care Assistant in surgery. Venepuncture Routine, non-advice blood pressure monitoring. Urinalysis. Perform ECGs recording and downloading ECG for both routine and emergency situations Chaperone duties as required. Assist in chronic disease / illness management clinics i.e. take basic measurements, height / weight / BMI/ BP/ Pulse / oxygen saturations. Assisting GP with Minor Surgery. Removal of wound closure materials in line with practice policy/ procedures, i.e. sutures / clips / steristrips Basic wound care dressing following removals of sutures, attend to patients in need of wound assessment and dressings as per protocol and with assistance from Practice Nurse. First aid and assisting in management of medical emergencies All in accordance with local protocols/ guidelines; Recording of all clinical / relevant health information collected, into patients electronic medical record and reporting of abnormal clinical findings to a clinician. Non-clinical duties Maintenance and stock control of consulting rooms. Maintenance and stock control of treatment rooms and testing room including all venepuncture stock and urinalysis/stool sample bottles. Maintain a register of medical refrigeration (min / max / actual) temperatures, as per practice policy / procedure. Ensure clinical waste collection runs smoothly, reporting any problems to the Management Team, ensuring waste is correctly collected, placed in to appropriately assembled waste boxes, sealed, and prepared ready for collection and disposal. Ensure sharps bins are appropriately assembled, sealed, and prepared ready for collection and disposal. Ensure all samples are collected in appropriate, labelled containers and that it is consistent with the request form. Ensure all specimens are in the appropriate collection box before leaving duty. Undertake any other duties, which may reasonably be required Confidentiality: Ensure that the Practice confidentiality policy is adhered to and in accordance with Clinical Governance and the Caldicott principles, Recognising, and where required sharing information pertinent to child and adult safeguarding / patient safety concerns. In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and dignity and act appropriately. In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, staff and other healthcare workers. Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the Practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the Practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data. Administration and professional responsibilities Ensure accurate and legible notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes. Ensure the clinical computer system is kept up to date with accurate details recorded. Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient healthcare and registration within the Practice. Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports. Attend and participate in meetings as required. To assist in seasonal and special projects as requested e.g. flu campaign. Management of appointment system Ensure total familiarity with the appointment system including regular and incidental variations. Book appointments and recalls ensuring sufficient information is recorded to enable retrieval of the medical record. Monitor effectiveness of the system and report any problems or variations to the Management Team. Health & Safety: The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the Health & Safety Policy Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks. Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills. Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards. Reporting potential risks identified to the management team.
