We operate a twin-track strategy:
* Helping existing energy assets reduce harmful emissions and improve efficiency, ensuring they remain a viable source of reliable power.
* Driving innovation in biomass and Energy from Waste to enhance reliability and performance in the next generation of power solutions.
Our work is complex, bespoke, and pioneering. We don’t just optimise existing systems – we invent new ones. Our track record of innovation has earned us industry recognition, including the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation.
At RJM, you’ll be working with a team of experts on high-impact projects worldwide, tackling some of the most pressing energy challenges of our time. We operate across multiple sectors, from utility-scale power generation to industrial energy users, handling everything from 1,000MWe power units to 100MW gas-fired boilers. Our expertise spans all fuel types and all firing systems, with a particular focus on biomass and Energy from Waste solutions.
With offices in Winchester, Singapore, Malaysia, and the USA, we offer global opportunities for ambitious engineers who want to expand their expertise and make a real impact on the future of energy.
CFD Engineer – Reinvent the Future of Energy
Are you a skilled CFD Engineer looking for an opportunity to develop cutting-edge combustion and emissions reduction solutions? RJM International is seeking an experienced CFD Engineer to perform advanced CFD analysis, help develop innovative combustion system designs, and contribute to the future of low-carbon energy solutions.
In this role, you will perform CFD analysis and solution design, collaborating closely with Process, Mechanical, and Business Development teams, playing a key part in optimising plant performance, reducing emissions, and developing new combustion technologies. You'll also have opportunities to engage in R&D initiatives, support commissioning activities, and work directly with clients to develop tailored solutions.
What You’ll Be Doing
Advanced CFD Analysis & Engineering
* Perform CFD simulations for combustion and emissions control in power generation projects.
* Perform detailed reacting and non-reacting fluid flow analysis using ANSYS Fluent.
* Conduct process calculations and engineering assessments to validate CFD results.
* Design and optimise ultra-low NOx burners firing coal, biomass, oil, gas, and hydrogen.
* Maintain accurate documentation and ensure best practices are followed.
Project Collaboration & Client Interaction
* Work closely with process and mechanical engineers to develop combustion solutions.
* Engage with clients and project teams to present findings, solutions, and recommendations.
* Support Business Development efforts by providing technical input for proposals and client discussions.
* Assist in preparing quotations, project resource planning, and progress reporting.
Site Based Work
* Support site-based diagnostic testing, commissioning, and design verification.
What We’re Looking For
We value talent and expertise, but we also recognize potential. If this role excites you but you don’t meet every requirement, we’d still love to hear from you.
Must-Haves:
* MEng or PhD in Chemical, Process, or Mechanical Engineering, ideally with a combustion focus.
* 2+ years in industrial CFD, ideally within power generation, emissions control, or combustion R&D.
* Strong proficiency in ANSYS Fluent for combustion analysis.
* Experience with 3D model and mesh generation (SpaceClaim, Design modeller, Fluent meshing) and optimization for large-scale models.
* Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and combustion chemistry.
* Knowledge of turbulence models, chemical kinetics, radiation heat transfer, and multiphase flows.
* Ability to present technical solutions to non-CFD personnel.
* Strong collaboration and communication skills across multidisciplinary teams.
* Ability to manage time to meet deadlines.
* Strong verbal and written English language skills for preparing technical presentations and reports.
Desirables:
* Prior experience CFD modelling boilers and firing systems.
* Understanding of emissions formation (NOx, CO, SOx, particulates, etc.).
* Understanding of plant thermal performance.
* Programming skills (Python, C++, FORTRAN, or VBA) for CFD automation.
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings to create geometric models.
* Comfortable with multi-tasking, prioritising activities, and working autonomously.
* Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, hands-on approach to engineering challenges.
* Chartered Engineer status (or actively working towards it).
* Full UK driving license and additional language skills are a plus.
