About the Role: Fixed term for 12 months Hastings Borough Council is looking for a compassionate and dedicated Rough Sleeping Support Navigator to join our Housing team as part of the East Sussex Rough Sleeping Initiative (RSI). This county-wide programme brings together housing, health, mental health, social care, and substance dependency specialists to help end rough sleeping. In this role, you will work directly with entrenched rough sleepers, providing intensive, person-centred support to help them move off the streets into sustainable housing. Working within a multi-agency team, you will build trust with clients, coordinate support services, and remove barriers to long-term housing solutions. Key Responsibilities: Provide assertive and proactive outreach to entrenched rough sleepers, or clients who are insecurely house with a long-term risk of rough sleeping. Manage a small but intensive caseload. Lead a Team Around the Person (TAP) approach, coordinating services such as housing, mental health, social care, and substance dependency support. Develop bespoke housing options plans, risk assessments, and support plans. Work closely with the Charity Committee, community groups, and other partners to enhance service provision. Keep detailed case records, including safeguarding reports and risk management plans. Advocate for clients and promote independence and empowerment. Remove barriers to housing, employment, and meaningful activity, ensuring long-term sustainability. Represent Hastings Borough Council and RSI at multi-agency meetings and partnership events. About You: We are looking for an empathetic, resilient, and highly organised individual who is passionate about supporting people facing homelessness. You should have experience working with vulnerable adults, strong knowledge of housing and homelessness legislation, and the ability to coordinate multi-agency support plans effectively. Essential Requirements: Experience working with vulnerable people, particularly those facing homelessness, mental health issues, or substance dependency. Ability to manage and prioritise a complex caseload. Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team or multi-agency setting. Strong knowledge of risk assessment and safeguarding practices. Excellent communication and advocacy skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly. Understanding of trauma-informed support and working with individuals with Multiple Compound Needs (MCN). Strong administrative, reporting, and data recording skills. Good IT proficiency, including experience with Microsoft Office and CRM systems. Desirable: Knowledge of homelessness legislation (Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, Care Act 2014, Mental Health Act 1983, etc.). Experience of trauma-informed working practices.
