Knowledge Development Lawyer – Intellectual Property
Department: Content Editorial & Research
Employment Type: Part Time
Location: London
Description
Law Business Research is an award-winning global provider of legal content and business intelligence. We create essential and unique information for our subscribers, the world’s leading law firms and companies – and are committed to supporting a diverse workforce and inclusive workplace, where we can all be ourselves and succeed. With a strong platform for international growth, and a reputation for creating outstanding content, we can offer individuals an intellectually stimulating work environment that puts global legal issues at the heart of our business.
We are looking for a part-time (three days a week, flexible working available) IP knowledge development lawyer to join our team in order to develop and produce practical legal resources focused on the creation and management of intellectual property (IP).
In IP, LBR has a suite of products which each are used daily by the world’s leading corporate IP teams and law firms. They include IAM, a platform that focuses on the business of IP globally; Docket Navigator, a US-based analytics platform which mines litigation data in IP and other fields to bring transparency to the litigation process; WTR, which hones in on the creation, protection and monetisation of world class brands; and Lexology PRO, a legal research platform offering a range of practical resources designed to support in-house counsel and private practice lawyers globally.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team and contribute to the production of practical resources– a range of how-to guides, checklists and summaries that provide practical support for carrying out core legal and business tasks and which are designed to support in-house counsel and private practice lawyers globally in their legal research and daily practice.
Reporting to the lead knowledge development lawyer, you will support the delivery and ongoing development of the practical resources offering by researching, producing and maintaining high-quality, technical content and supporting external suppliers in the delivery of materials.
The successful candidate will be an experienced, practicing lawyer with a deep understanding of private practice and/or in-house counsel workflows and a demonstrable awareness of, and interest in, global legal developments, who can produce essential guidance to help lawyers practise more efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
* Produce practical resources such as how-to guides, checklists, summaries and other legal content, to a high technical and editorial standard.
* Act as contact point for suppliers of legal content, briefing on content set and guidelines, reviewing and editing content and providing feedback, to ensure materials are delivered to a high standard and to deadline.
* Work with the wider team to refine and publish the resources.
* Maintain existing practical resources.
* Research and draw up frameworks for new content sets.
* Monitor relevant legal and/or major market developments in IP.
* Provide additional legal research and support to the wider team as required.
* Develop and contribute to ideas for new legal content and tools aimed at creating efficiencies in practitioners’ workflows, in alignment with our clients’ needs.
* Liaise with sales and marketing teams to showcase new content offerings and receive feedback on customer experience and requirements.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
* UK or European qualified lawyer (dual qualified a bonus) with 3-5 years of legal industry experience (in private practice and/or in-house).
* Up-to-date knowledge of the law and market practice in IP.
* Deep understanding of legal workflows and the practical needs of (in particular) in-house lawyers, as well as private practice and the IP legal market generally.
* Interest in a legal career outside of the traditional legal advisory space.
* PSL Experience is desirable (not essential).
* Clear succinct writing style.
* Excellent written English.
* Demonstrable analytical and data skills, and ability to identify key relevant information from a range of sources.
* Familiarity with online legal research tools preferred.
* Self-motivated and driven.
* Ability to effectively manage own time to ensure work completed efficiently.
* A team player who actively participates in the success of the team and willing to place higher priority on team/organisational goals rather than own goals at times.
* Responsibility for continually developing own areas of expertise and skills.
* Keen eye for detail and concern for high standards.
