Job Description
* Due to increasing workload and a dedication to continued profitable long-term growth, we have vacancies for SSE South DNO authorised Senior Authorised Persons (SAP) to work on projects within our client's region. The role is highly varied and requires a flexible approach to work in order to ensure the successful completion of time-critical work for clients.
* The Senior Authorised Person (SAP) is responsible for executing construction and asset replacement projects on 11kV - 132kV distribution networks. Undertake operational, technical, and safety duties associated with the construction, maintenance, and commissioning of projects. Play a key role in ensuring the business's teams are set to work safely and to ensure new/modified electrical apparatus is fit for purpose as it is energised or re-energised. Provide leadership, teamwork with peers and colleagues, sound technical knowledge, a positive safety culture, and strong technical awareness.
* The role may also involve overseeing and training apprentices, with a view to develop and grow the internal team and resource.
The Role
* Organise and execute HV switching, isolation, earthing, identification of the point of work, and issue of safety documentation duties on HV networks up to 11kV, 33kV, and/or 132kV in accordance with customer safety rules and operational procedures.
* Preparation of switching programmes, including system alteration forms.
* 100% accurate execution of operational schedules on site and safety document issue to construction teams for work on HV networks.
* The ability to undertake spiking of HV cables and pressure testing of new/modified plant before energisation.
* Use of sound technical knowledge to support construction teams.
* Ensuring safety from the system.
* Engender a positive working culture within the team, covering health and safety, workmanship quality, attention to detail, and development of the business's team ethic.
* Commissioning and operation of electrical plant and equipment on all types of apparatus within an electricity substation.
* Ensure all records of completed works are submitted and updated.
* Use of sound technical knowledge to support construction teams, being available to support the knowledge and capabilities of construction teams technically to ensure the business's work is to the required standard, is fully fit for purpose, and new/modified HV plant is safe to energise. The ability to think complex electrical issues through to resolution, including system protection schemes.
* Planning and organising scopes of work on behalf of clients (DNO's and IDNO's etc.).
* Liaising with clients to ensure shutdown duration and procedures are understood and agreed.
* Responsible for the effective resourcing of labour, tools, and equipment necessary to complete all assigned works.
The Person
* To have a proven track record operating as an SAP in a hands-on capacity from within a recognised utilities / HV power contractor or a client-side DNO.
* You will hold current authorisations within any of the UK's DNO's, or have held authorisations within any of the UK's DNO's within the last 12 months.
* Possess a thorough understanding of working under a DNO's control and experience of switching systems, procedures, and processes, including outages.
* HNC in a relevant electrical or engineering discipline or demonstrable practical experience.
* Must be able to demonstrate a wide range of knowledge and experience with various overhead line, underground cabling, and substation components/equipment/systems, including switchgear, transformers, and high voltage cabling.
* Ideally possess a good knowledge/experience of ring and radial systems.
* Possess a good knowledge of National Model Distribution Safety Rules and their interpretation.
* Senior Authorised Persons must conduct themselves with authority and confidence.
* Extensive experience in Power Distribution arena.
* Must hold SSEN DNO Authorisation.
* Possession of a current Senior Authorised Person certificate on an existing Distribution Network Owners System.
* HNC in Electrical Engineering.
* IOSH, NEBOSH, SMSTS, or other safety-related qualification.
