What you will be doing: You will be designing and developing process solutions, including water and steam at elevated temperatures and pressures, and waste treatment, for submarine and shore-based process systems. This includes design for safety, manufacture, build and commissioning. Lead the development of requirements and design options for engineering packages. Basic performance analysis of fluid systems using commercial and in-house developed thermal-hydraulic codes e.g. fluid flow analysis of pipework systems, to determine systems losses, pressure drops, pump design selection, pressure vessel sizing and heat exchanger sizing. Design substantiation and safety justification of process systems, including use of evaluation techniques such as hazard identification (HAZOP), fault tree analysis, FMECAs and implementation of As Low As reasonably Practicable principles. Ensuring that principles of inherent safety, hierarchy of controls and simplification are embedded into the design. Definition of operating procedures and component specifications. Support to submarine and facility design, build and commissioning activities. Maintenance of in-service design justifications and response to in-service events and queries. Ideally Process/Fluid Systems experience in the Nuclear Sector, however experience within Chemical, Oil/Gas, Pharmaceutical, Food or other relevant Industries will be considered. A strong understanding of fluid mechanics / dynamics fundamental theory. (CFD) A degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Chemical or Process Engineering (other science and engineering-based disciplines will be considered). A basic process engineering and mathematical solver software ability. Collaborative approach with the ability to work with multiple stakeholders of varying disciplines and technical ability.
