An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Orthopaedic Team. We are very excited to offer this secondment opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to develop their leadership skills based on our acute Orthopaedic and trauma ward (Gateley), which specialises in trauma and spinal injury care.
This is a great opportunity to work alongside a team of nurse leaders and surgical practitioners. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work and support our elective ward Ashill, within the newly opened unit the Norfolk and Norwich Orthopaedic Department, supporting the ward manager and learning about the elective pathway.
We are looking for an experienced nurse that fulfils the job requirement or is interested in supporting the registered nurses and at the same time to experience the role of a deputy ward manager.
This is an exciting and progressive department which is continuously adapting to meet and enhance the care provided to our patients and we would welcome any applicants who would relish leading the team and continue taking the department forward.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be highly motivated to deliver the high standards of nursing care to our patients within the Trauma and Orthopaedic department. Essential skills key to this role are implementing and maintaining high clinical standards whilst caring for patients, enhancing staff personal development, providing guidance, support, and expertise to clinical staff.

Job responsibilities
As a post holder you would be responsible for promoting and implementing practice conducive to the development of high-quality patient care by providing professional, clinical and managerial leadership.
1. Carry out and advise/ supervise junior staff in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluating of nursing care.
2. To take charge of the clinical area in the absence of the Ward/ Department Sister/ Charge Nurse.
3. To co-ordinate and monitor the progress of patients within the plan of care and to promptly and effectively communicate relevant changes in patient status to the multi-disciplinary team.
4. Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers, significant others, the multi-disciplinary team and support services.
5. To ensure that clinical records and documentation are maintained accurately.
6. To act as a role model and demonstrate expertise within the sphere of practice.
7. Use leadership skills to create an environment that is safe and supportive to ensure effective teamwork and a motivated, efficient workforce.
8. Assist Ward/ Department Sister/ Charge Nurse to monitor staff sickness and absence, staff turnover and the usage of Bank and Agency staff.
9. Actively assist with the identification of performance issues and initiate action as required, in conjunction with the Ward Sister/ Charge Nurse.

Qualifications Essential
* Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC register.
* Post registration qualification experience relevant to the clinical area.

* Significant experience at Band 5 level, of which some is to be in a position relevant to the speciality.
* Experience of managing and leading a clinical area.
